3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Best before August of 2012.
A: This is an absolutely stunning beer in my snifter, pitch black body shows off a beautiful thick dark tan head that lingers for a while.
S: Slight milk chocolate, but the raisin flavor takes the aroma and Iím not a fan of that.
T: The raisin flavor is much more tame in the body and balanced really well. On the intro mild roasted malts and some raisin flavors mingle which lead to some milk chocolate notes. The finish becomes a nice blend of roasted malts, dark chocolate, and raisins. This is done well.
M: Thick and velvety, this is how a stout should go down.
O: Iím not a huge fan, but I appreciate this for what it is. This is a solid Russian imperial stout with a lot to like.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Poured a black color with an average frothy brown head that mostly lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy roasted coffee, chocolate and alcohol aroma. Medium to heavy toasted chocolate malt flavor with a heavy dark sweet and small alcohol bite finish of moderate duration. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. This is a solid beer.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
My second of the 2012 pack since I am going by ABV. This pours a black with a luscious coffee head to it. I am getting a lot of milk chocolate notes. Very smooth. Slight roast notes at the back. A well done almost milk stout.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
12 oz. bottle from SoHo Organic Market in Elizabeth City, NC. Pours black with a luxurious creamy brown head. Expected coffee and dark chocolate aromas. The taste is roasted coffee, chocolate, and roasted nuts with hints of dark fruit. Full bodied and creamy mouthfeel. Really well done.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Dark chocolate brown, with a mousse of light brown lace on top, like chocolate pudding. This thing looks totally badass.
Malts are deeply roasted chocolate, like cookies, immediately followed by an incredibly boozy bourbon scent. So far this seems like it might be legendary. There are plums and stone fruits wafting out in its wake.
The flavor is harsh, burnt cookies, with more of that boozy alcohol burn. There is a musty quality, but once it warms up, it turns into a deeply dark nutty taste. Much more burnt than I had anticipated. The sweetness is fleeting, and quickly swallowed up by a burnt darkness.
Chunky and creamy on the tongue. Has the body of a creamier stout, with a little burn at the end. Not as oily as I would have expected. This baby does not hide its alcohol. It is a big beer, bigger even than itís 8.9% would indicate. If you like a big Imperial Stout, this one should suffice.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
12oz. bottle. Aroma of dark chocolate, deep roast, plum and toffee, with lighter notes of burnt sugar, cherry and alcohol. Fully black in color with a lasting, thin head of tan, very fine bubbles and lacing. Flavor profile is roasty and full of chocolate and dark, plummy fruits, some raisin and molasses here as well, the roastiness of the malt and bitterness of the hops helping to dry and balance out the dark sugars and huge chocolate character before the end. Warming, sharp and substantial on the palate, with an unusual thick, tangy and almost salty feel and a full body, alcohol also making its presence known here. Kind of an unexpected take on the style, very Baltic and old school RIS, seemingly. Would likely age pretty well.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
The aroma is roasty, dark bitter chcolate, licorice. The appearance is deep black, brown head. The flavor is woody, dark chcolate, roast, pine, licorice. The finish is alternating sweet, pine needles, roast. Medium/thick to thick in body, creamy mouthfeel. Nicely done. The Long Shot beers are actually better than many of Samís regular offerings.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 13/20
Nice black pour with foamy brown head. Roasted malts the first thing out of the glass followed by toffee and cocoa. Thick. Thick in the mouth like drinking a marshmallow. Some hints of vanilla but everything is roasted from the chocolate yo the hops Nicely though. This is a good imperial but thick as hell.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Tasted from a 12oz brown bottle into a nucleated tulip. It poured an opaque very dark reddish brown color with creamy, long-lasting brown foam and lots of Belgian lace. Excellent appearance. Aromas and flavors true-to-style for Russian Imperial Stout, but overly burnt and alcoholic, not as bready, fruity, or chocolatey as classic examples. Heavy body, medium carbonation, sticky residual mouthfeel, roasty aftertaste. I thought it was barely okay, didnít even finish the bottle, not sure what everyone else sees in this one. To me itís possible proof than winning homebrew recipes donít always translate to national distribution scale. Or, maybe I just got a bad bottle.
