Nice Abbey-something. Abby Normal? This is a nice sweet dubbel. Flavors are good, notes of some banana and some caramel, but in a good way.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
(bottle - 12 oz) Slightly cloudy orange with a thick white head. Citrus in the aroma with some floral hops. Surprisingly still has some good hop bitterness to it considering its age. Citrus and spicy yeast at the front with a light bitter hop aftertaste.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
6/02/2011: Samuel Adams Category 23 LongShot Friar Hop Ale... Aroma: Fresh white grapes on the vine; sugary bread and doughy yeast; dried hops, herbs, and spices. Appearance: Golden color with a deep hue and clean complexion; a single pillar of carbonation in the little of the glass; lasting, dense head of ivory-colored foam; nice lacing effects. Flavor: Belgian spiciness and crisp, dry Pils-like malt in the flavor; nicely balanced - not too sweet and not too bitter or spicy; golden raisins in the middle and then dried lemon zest in the slightly herbal and mildly hoppy finish; a bit of alcohol venting through the nose in the finish as the beer warms. Palate: Medium-full; body weight to the body; smooth and slightly creamy on the palate; a bit sticky on the lips. Overall: Pretty good, but a bit underwhelming; I was hoping for more; this is a decent Belgian IPA, but not my favorite example or style.
12 fl. oz. bottle (9.0% ALC./VOL.; Enjoy Before SEP 2011) from Rempke Bigg’s in Harrison, Ohio. Rating #230 for this beer.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
A - Pours a clear amber with 1 finger off-white frothy head. Big sheets of lacing on this one.
S - Bready malt, spicy yeast, peppery alcohol vapors, sweet citrus and various fruit aromas.
T - Sweet malt backed quickly by a shot of lemony grassy hops. Fruity yeast-candied pears and apples. Some hay notes mixed in. Finishes sweet and spicy drying out at the very end.
M - Full bodied, lively carbonation.
Not bad. Pretty good all around and does a great job of hiding the 9% ABV. A very nice looking beer.

Hazy amber beer, tiny white head. Light semi dry palate. Sweetish malt, a little tea and subtle banana and bubblegum. Light spice. Finishes dry and mildly bitter. Messy!

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
pours a clear amber. The aroma says "Belgian", although the odd fruity aroma from yeast is largely absent. Predominantly spicy (*coriander) with hints of citrus and a notable toasted malt.
T - light some actual Belgians, this beer is a bit too heavily spiced for my preferences. Also has sweet caramel and citrusy hop, but not as hoppy as expected from an IPA; better to think of this as a Belgian pale ale. Rich flavor throughout tasting, becoming less sweet and more bitter as one goes from initial taste to the finish. Medium body and medium/light carbonation.
O - good beer, but significantly less appealing than another similarly hoppy Belgian sampled recently: Ommegang BPA.

Bottle courtesy of BBB 63 pours a reddish brown with an off white head. The nose and taste nice are sweet. Nice use of Belgian yeast on the backend overall very good beer. It’s a bit bozzy but that’s part of the appeal.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Clear orange-copper color with thin white head. Light hoppy and yeasty aroma with some coriander. Creamy texture with honey and orange peel. Noticeable but ligh malt character for a Belgian Ale
