COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A traditional smoked wheat beer unique flavor comes from a combination of the smoky sweetness from the heirloom smoked malt and the spicy and herbal notes from Saaz hops.

12oz. bottle. Sweet, tangy, lightly smoky and tart aroma, some pale wheat grain and vanilla present, with lighter notes of doughy yeast and grassy hop. Mostly clear light straw yellow in color with plenty of visible effervescence feeding a fine, persistent head, some nice lacing as well. Flavor profile is grainy, sweet, lightly smoky and faintly tart, with a mild hop bitterness and faint herbal hop flavor, finishing with a mild blend of spice and smoke. Finely but actively carbonated on the palate, rather thin in feel but I believe thatís more of a function of the style, body is light-medium. Interesting and extremely easy to drink, for sure.

Slightly hazy golden coloured body with an almost non-existent white head. Aroma of smoke, grass, yeast, malt, sausage and more smoke - strong! Light-bodied; Strong smoke flavour with bacon and grass in the mix as well. Aftertaste shows a slightly sour note with some lemons and herbs, but the majority of the flavours are the smoked notes which are very pungent, especially for a beer low in ABV and low in malt. Overall, a surprisingly nice beer with a great smoke flavour and a low alcohol and body which makes for good easy drinking with tons of flavour. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Giant Foods in Falls Church, Virginia on 03-May-2014 for US$1,67 sampled at home in Washington on 01-November-2014.

Bottle to snifter. Pours a cloudy dark yellow with medium sized, white head. Nose has a camp fire smokiness to it. Taste is mildly grainy with a medium smokiness to it, not in a bad phenolic way though. Not really getting any of the spicing. Itís ok, seems dulled down, quaffable, but nothing great.

Freaking awesome. I love smoke beers, and this one delivers a ton of hammy/smokey goodness both in the aroma and flavor. Dull straw pour with good ring of bright white head. A little saazy spiciness on the burps! Other than that, a very light bodied, refreshing wheat beer.

Bottle: Pours a dark yellow with a small white head. Aromas are sweet smoke with some fruit going on as well. Taste is pretty smoky with a lighter wheat backdrop to it. Not getting much hop character at all...with there was some more going on in here other than the smoke that I get.

12 ounce bottle into signature pint glass, best before 8/2014. Pours hazy golden straw color with a 1 finger dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a large amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of lemon, apple, wheat, cracker, bread, wood smoke, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/smoke earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with well balanced pale malt, smoke, and earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of lemon, apple, wheat, cracker, bread, wood smoke, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/smoke earthiness. Minimal bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon, apple, wheat, cracker, bread, wood smoke, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/smoke earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice complexity and balance of pale malt, smoke, and earthy hop flavors; with good robustness and no cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and light-medium bodied; with a very smooth crisp, and slightly bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with zero warming present after the finish as expected of 4.4%. Overall this is a nice and pleasant gratzer style ale. Good complexity, robustness, and balance of pale malt, smoke, and earthy hop flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.

kramer (5063) - Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA - SEP 5, 2014
Bottle. Pours a clear straw yellow body under a one finger fizzy white head. The nose is slightly smoky with wheat malt and a slight bit of Saaz hops. The flavor is pretty smoky, among the more aggressive efforts Iíve had in the style, with a light yeastiness and pale wheat base. Light bodied and very drinkable with soft fizzy carbonation. Pretty nice beer, I like that Sam Adams continues with these Longshot beers.

Nephilium (1391) - Ohio, USA - SEP 1, 2014
Mild slightly tart aroma, pours a very hazy dark orangish-yellow, with a moderate white head. The smoke is just a hint in the flavor profile, with a nice touch of wheat sweetness coming from the malt. Little to no hop bitterness detected, just a touch of spice notes. Light bodied, this is a nice beer to sip on a hot day.
