3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
12 oz bottle into a pint glass.
A: Pours a beautiful chestnut red color. I love the clarity of the body, in particular. The head is great too, a two finger cream shade that retains itself very well, and leaves attractive lacing on the glass. Really a good looking brew.
S: I notice subtle touches of floral hops, piny notes, and *faint* grapefruit (and I do mean faint), backed - or should I say, overpowered by a sweet caramel malt base. While aromatically decent, I could really use more hops here.
T: I’d reckon this is closer to an imperial amber than a DIPA. The flavor starts out with some mild caramel and toffee, before finishing with touches of earthy, piney, and floral qualities. I really like the balance here, I must say.
M: The body has good crispness and a well-balanced dry finish, which helps keep any excessive sweetness in check. It’s also decently well-built in terms of thickness, neither too heavy nor light.
O: I can really tell the brewer of this was inspired more by Nugget Nectar than Ruination; there’s a degree of elegance here missing in so many examples of the style. Having said that, it isn’t as explosively bold as some of the best DIPAs are, nor does it compare with NN in overall quality. This one’s so close to being great, yet it’s missing a bit of additional hoppiness to make that possible. I’m still mildly impressed either way.

3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
12 oz bottle: Aroma has got a nice pungent hop aroma with a nice grapefruit scent within. Appearance is an amber hue with a thick white head that lingers. Taste has got a thick texture to it, hops are at the forefront, but there is some malts in the backend. Sticky mouthfeel with medium carbonation and an aftertaste of lingering resiny hops. Overall, Decent IPA. I liked it. Cheers!

Poured from bottle into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a beautiful orange-amber color with a rocky and thick just off-white head. The head has some amazing staying power, very slowly fading over time to leave a great level of lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma is a very nice blend of sweet and hoppy. The base of the sweet is a caramel nature but there are also tropical fruit smells with tangerine, mango, and pineapple. The hop is heaviest in aroma of a grapefruit smell, but other aromas of a pine and earthy nature are mixed in there as well, overall creating a sweet and nicely blended hop smell.
Taste – The taste begins bready with a moderate presence of a caramel sweetness. Upfront there is also a light grapefruit hop as well as a rather decent showing of a pine hop flavor. While the aroma was of tropical fruits there was very little of these in the flavor. As the taste advances the grapefruit hop and caramel dwindles some with the pine growing stronger and being joined by a big earthy hop taste. In the end, with the sweeter flavors lessening up and the earthy getting rather strong, one is left with a bitter and earthy/pine hop blend flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the average to slightly creamier side with a carbonation level that consisted of tons of tiny and prickly carbonation bubbles. The carbonation is great in light of the earthy and pine hops adding a nice tingling taste to the heavier tastes of the hops.
Overall – A slightly more earthy and piney IPA/double IPA with a good dose of bitternes. A good go to when looking for a IPA that is less citrusy and a bit heavier in other hop flavors.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
"Really impressed with this one, especially at this low price point. Dark and dank, citrusy and spicy. Very complex aroma and flavor. Malty, but more than adequately hoppy and aromatic, with a pretty nice sticky body. Looking forward to a couple more of these."

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle best by Sep 2013 - Dark rich amber orange, clear, with nice tan-ish head, settling slowly with nice lace. Immediate pine, grapefruit aroma faded quickly, some caramel and leathery funk. Some big bitterness up front in the flavor, definite caramel and semi-dry with slight metallic twang in the finish. It’s yummy, my deScription and rating reflects that I found this single out of date by a couple months.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
12oz bottle (courtesy of Headbanger) poured into a Shaker at 40°. Color is a bright golden brown with mellow carbonation and a nice rocky off white head. Aroma is sweet malt then spice floral hops on the back. It has a medium body with a creamy and slightly rich mouth feel. Flavor comes in malty giving nice toffee notes then the hops show with just a touch of pine and a spicy, peppery citrus. In the after taste the pepper hangs on with a mild bitterness. Overall its a very good IPA, but I feel it should be a little bigger as an Imperial.
