3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
12 oz bottle into a pint glass.
A: Pours a beautiful chestnut red color. I love the clarity of the body, in particular. The head is great too, a two finger cream shade that retains itself very well, and leaves attractive lacing on the glass. Really a good looking brew.
S: I notice subtle touches of floral hops, piny notes, and *faint* grapefruit (and I do mean faint), backed - or should I say, overpowered by a sweet caramel malt base. While aromatically decent, I could really use more hops here.
T: Iíd reckon this is closer to an imperial amber than a DIPA. The flavor starts out with some mild caramel and toffee, before finishing with touches of earthy, piney, and floral qualities. I really like the balance here, I must say.
M: The body has good crispness and a well-balanced dry finish, which helps keep any excessive sweetness in check. Itís also decently well-built in terms of thickness, neither too heavy nor light.
O: I can really tell the brewer of this was inspired more by Nugget Nectar than Ruination; thereís a degree of elegance here missing in so many examples of the style. Having said that, it isnít as explosively bold as some of the best DIPAs are, nor does it compare with NN in overall quality. This oneís so close to being great, yet itís missing a bit of additional hoppiness to make that possible. Iím still mildly impressed either way.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle best by Sep 2013 - Dark rich amber orange, clear, with nice tan-ish head, settling slowly with nice lace. Immediate pine, grapefruit aroma faded quickly, some caramel and leathery funk. Some big bitterness up front in the flavor, definite caramel and semi-dry with slight metallic twang in the finish. Itís yummy, my description and rating reflects that I found this single out of date by a couple months.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
12oz bottle (courtesy of Headbanger) poured into a Shaker at 40į. Color is a bright golden brown with mellow carbonation and a nice rocky off white head. Aroma is sweet malt then spice floral hops on the back. It has a medium body with a creamy and slightly rich mouth feel. Flavor comes in malty giving nice toffee notes then the hops show with just a touch of pine and a spicy, peppery citrus. In the after taste the pepper hangs on with a mild bitterness. Overall its a very good IPA, but I feel it should be a little bigger as an Imperial.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Good solid example of the style. Nice piney aroma with a hint of citrus. Nice bronze color with a solid white head. Crisp and full palate with complimenting carbonation. Great mix of hops flavors with a burst of bitterness at the beginning that eventually mellows out near the end of the bottle. Malt background is solid but doesnít have the sweetness as advertised. Enjoyed it.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a deep orange amber with a long lasting medium beige head, good lacing throughout. Aroma and Taste of floral pine hops and caramel malt which becomes more notable as it warms up, also some notes of brown sugar. Palate is a medium body with a smooth texture and good carbonation. Finishes with floral pine hops, some mild orange peel notes, caramel malt and some mild brown sugar on the end. Overall seems to have a good balance, smooth and nice flavor, a good brew.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Mildly hazy dark orange color with a high amount of visible carbonation and lots of lacing; Soapy head. Aroma of mild citrus hops, caramel, toffee, pine and malts. Flavor is bitter piney hops, resin, citrus, and resin. Very Bitter but somewhat mild in taste. Heavy and thick body with some moderate carbonation. They nailed the bitter resin hop part but forgot to balance out the rest of the flavor.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Drink by September 2013. Poured into a Sam Adams Perfect Pint.
Appearance: A beautiful beer. Crystal clear copper with a soft sand colored, three finger head on top. The head sticks around for awhile, and the lacing, at least at the start, as ridiculous.
Smell: Damn, I love hops. Serious amounts of pine and resin. The label also mentions grapefruit, but I donít really get that ... there is a sweetness in there, though.
Taste/feel: Hard for me to pick this one. As dark as this IPA is, I figured itíd maybe be pretty sweet or at least be balanced, but itís not -- this beer is definitely on the bitter side, at least after the first few sips, and tastes pretty much nothing like it smells. I get almost a roasty-sweet sort of malt flavor on the start of the sip, followed by a fairly brief parade of piney hops, and then it finishes with a dusty/gritty sort of malt flavor. Itís not bad at all, but the smell had me expecting something entirely different. In that way, it almost reminds me of Alpha King by Three Floyds, which is a darker APA that bursts with hops in the aroma, but then has a maltier taste. This almost drinks like some sort of amber or something more than an IPA... ALMOST. Itís good, but I didnít see it coming. The feel is quite smooth with a medium carbonation -- it lets the hops do the work on your tongue rather than the prickly carbonation, which is good. Just a note: This beer becomes almost TOO SWEET once it warms up.
Has to be the best in the 2013 LongShot contest, but not by too significant of a margin. It looks awesome, it smells great, and it has a solid flavor.
