COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Ben brewed this ale to mark his 100th batch of homebrew. The beer is rich and malty, with a hint of caramel and plum. Brewed with citrusy American hops and a blend of six varieties of malt, the sweet and dark fruit notes in this beer linger on the palate.”

sweet apple and plum malt throughout. chewy and syrupy, under-attenuated, but without any faults. red apple skin and caramel and vienna malt in the nose. hops seem dormant other than a moderate bitterness in the finish, along with an apparent dryness. or perhaps the syrupy perfume fruit flavor that I’m getting is how the hops present themselves. some dirty phenols seems to be in the mix too, giving it a mild flavor mid-palate of licorice, dried pineapple and salted/peppered cashews.

A - Pours a dark ruby with an off-white head that melts into a wispy island of tiny bubbles. S - Rich malt, dark dried fruit, roasted brown sugar, alcohol vapors, over ripened grapes T - Toasty and complex, sugary sweet malt, chocolate, candied plum, deep dark cherry flavor, alcohol is very prominent, also has a nice toasted caramel flavor along with an old musky oak flavor. The delicate pine hops supports the giant malt compound. Mouthfeel is full bodied with average carbonation for the style. Aftertaste is of citrus hops. A very malty/complex forward Barleywine that finishes with a dry citrus flavor. This has lots of stories to unfold with age. Don’t pass it up. Serving type: bottle 08-13-2010

Clear amber beer with a big off white head. Light palate, a little dry and crispy. Very light malt with a lot of floral things going on. Very mild citrus underneath. Semi dry finish with mild bitter linger. The most floral barleywine I’ve ever had!

Poured from 12 ounce bottle bought when this beer was commercially available, tasted on July 27, 2012--yes, it sat in the back of my fridge all that time. Nice dark amber hue, large tan head that slowly receded with good lacing, vinous aroma with date and other fruity elements, creamy, smooth, but firm bittersweet flavor. My other bottle of this broke shortly after I bought the Long Shot six pack it was in, so I don’t know if this improved or declined with age. Regardless, not bad at all

Barley wine that does a great imitation of a Pale Ale. Very nice bitter/hop profile. Pretty in the glass with a nice head.

Pours a deep ruby brown with a meringue like head that slowly dissipates but sticks lots on the sides. Some earthy resinous hops are still evident but you can tell they are a shadow of their former glory. There’s a solid shot of brown sugar and caramel in the aroma as well as a hint of wet cardboard. The flavor has become a lot sweeter than I remember with lots of sweet dark sugar and caramel with some dark cherries and raisins as well as just enough resinous hop to still provide a hint of balance. Medium body with a sweet sticky mouthfeel and a moderate level of carbonation. This is still a nice beer, but I think it in that in between stage where the hops are fading and allowing the malt to shine, but it needs more time to complete its transition.

Bottle, at Papsø. Clear red with a small off white head. Floating concentrated abricot juice in the nose. Flavor is sweet malty, phenolic with preserved light fruits and caramel. Some alcohol felt. Soft carbonation. Syrupy texture and rather decadent. Not my kinda barley wine.

Bottled. A dark red beer with a beige head. The aroma has notes of hops, fruits, berries, and caramel. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, caramel, fruits, alcohol, and berries, leading to a dry alcoholic finish.
