COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Michael Robinson’s Old Ben Ale is a malty English-style brew boasting notes of dried fruit, nut, and caramel. A slight bitterness balances the combination of five malts in this full bodied beer. Light brown with reddish highlights and good clarity, the ingredients of this English-style brew are all American with the exception of the yeast which is distinctively English. Created to enjoy on cold nights or as an after dinner treat, Mike’s Old Ale is 9% alcohol by volume, about twice that of the average beer. An experienced homebrewer, Mike was recognized as a finalist in the 2008 Samuel Adams LongShot American Homebrew Contest, as well as in the 2007 Samuel Adams® Patriot Homebrew Contest.

OK - so this is after a few IPAs. So my tongue may be influenced by the "BITTAH." But let’s have a go at it. Really sweet - tastes like a bottle of molasses. Notes of leather, oak and - well more leather in the flavor area. Nose is banana. I think with dessert this would be an excellent beer. After IPAs, sucks.

Bottle. Appearance: copper red with a super frothy white head. Aroma: Lots of malt, damp malt, bran, copper and caramel. Flavour: Super bran, malt, alcohol, burnt toast, long fresh malt finish. Not bad.

Sugary dark fruit sweet mess. Not very drinkable, and I’m glad I only bought one of them.

Hazy brown beer, small pale tan head. Smooth palate, semi dry and with a little fine carbonation. Malt, bubblegum. Trace of citrus. Semi dry finish. Fine.

Copper brown color on the pour. Smells of butterscotch and toffee. Tastes old and coppery. Certainly a little metal. Spiced booze. Spiced malt liquor. Not a big fan.

Pours a medium amber-copper with a large off-white head and good lacing. Aroma is caramel, fruits, and honey. Taste of honey, malts, a little pine. Very sweet! There is a little bit of a warming effect at the end. More of a sipping beer!

Pours a reddish tint with a minimal off-white head. Has a standard malty and slightly bitter taste but finishes surprisingly fruity while remaining somewhat dry throughout. Interesting. S-3.1/5

Listed on Boston Beer website as an Old Ale. Beer pours clear amber golden color with huge head that spilled over, even in my slightly oversized glass. Lots of lacing. It sure is pretty. The aroma was that of metallic raisins. The flavor is sweet fruity sugars, a little overly sweet, and yes, some metallic flavors as well.. Not nearly as good as the original Longshot Old Ale winner, imo. Not a great fan of this one.

Bottle. Poured amber with a tan head that left light lace. Fruity aroma of raisins. The flavor found dark fruits with a malt and light alcohol backing. Medium body, sweet, and a metallic aftertaste.
