COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Created by Samuel Adams Employee Teresa Bury, PA.

Teresa made it a personal challenge to create a beer with a strong hop flavor that was balanced with her favorite fruit, pineapple. Brewed with four different American hops for a burst of grapefruit character that’s mellowed and complemented by the tropical fruit notes from the pineapple.

[Bottle] Deep golden pour with a copious amount of white foam on top. Notes of pineapple jelly, grapefruit and sweet orange peel in the nose. More of a pineapple extract note in the flavor. Citrus zest, musty grains and honey round it out. Bitterness levels are low, but persistent. Tasting notes from 7/2014.

Golden yellow pour with an off-white head. Aroma is light fruit. Taste is light pineapple in the finish. A bit smooth, ok tasting and lacing.

Bottle from Canals in Delran. Notes of bread, grapefruit and some pineapple. Taste was balanced and refreshing. Body was a tad thin, but the brew was solid and different.

bottle: not as much hop character as I was hoping for, but this was still pretty good. Nice juicy pineapple flavor comes through with some citrus and flowery hop notes. Good...but really wish it had some more bite to compete with the sweet pineapple flavor.

12 ounce bottle purchased at Total Wine Pembroke Pines, FL for $9.99/6-pack. Not bad.

Faint aroma of pineapple, very little hop aroma present. Pours a clear amber with a thin white head. Main flavor is pineapple, with a mild hop bitterness in the finish. Not a lot going on, fairly middle of the road.

Butters (3960) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - SEP 1, 2014
Clear dark golden pour with ring of white head. Not too much by way of aroma, some honey, some grapefruit. But the flavor brings out a much larger citrus and sweetness. The bitterness of the hops only comes out on the finish lending for a little balance to the upfront sweetness of the pineapple notes. The flavors play decently well together, but it just doesn’t do a lot for my personal tastes. Still, an interesting offering.

12oz. bottle. Aroma of light, honeyish sweetness, faint pineapple and citrus, touch of malt toast here as well. Clear light amber in color with a fine, lasting head and intricate lacing. Flavor is mildly sweet with touches of caramel up front, followed by a tinge of tropical fruit and faint pineapple juice, and finishing with a very light hoppy bitterness and lingering grapefruit character. Finely but well-carbonated on the palate with a very lightly sticky feel and a medium body. Easy enough to drink, but didn’t quite live up to the pineapple IPA I had in my head before I drank it.

Cloudy golden yellow. Decent slushy head, thin sheet of lace. Very good all around. Aroma has some cooked vegetable stuff. Broccoli and similar sulfurics. Not great. The taste is more weird vegetable broth, along with a touch of citrus, although I never would have picked up on the pineapple. There is a dry, ashy feel. I have to say, this is a very sub-par offering for the Longshot series. Pineapples: good. IPAs: great. Pineapple IPA. Disappointing.

12 ounce bottle into signature pint glass, best before 8/2014. Pours fairly crystal clear golden orange color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky off white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, lemon zest, floral, grass, light pine, light caramel, bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of citrus hops, pineapple, and moderate pale malt sweetness; with solid strength. Taste of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, lemon zest, floral, grass, light pine, light caramel, biscuit, and floral/grassy earthiness. Fair amount of pine/grassy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, lemon zest, floral, grass, light pine, light caramel, biscuit, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice balance and complexity of citrus hops, pineapple, and moderate pale malt sweetness; with a good malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth, crisp, and slightly sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a nice fruited IPA. All around good balance and complexity of citrus hop, pineapple, and pale malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.
