COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The first of this yearís winners, Dave Anderson, works in the packaging department at Sam Adams. His submission, a Strawberry Lager, is described as ďa bright and fresh wheat beer, with a strong strawberry character balanced with toffee and citrus notes Ė the brewerís vision of the perfect summertime beer to enjoy after a round of golf on a hot day. Brewed with fresh strawberries, this beer pours a bright golden color and imparts a malty sweetness with hints of lemon and earthiness. Strawberry Lager finishes with a wonderful intensive strawberry flavor without being overwhelming and leaves a lingering creamy sweetness on the palate.Ē

Clear almost bright golden yellow with ring of near white head. Nose has the fake candy strawberry (the ones in the strawberry wrapper) notes, but it doesnít come off as too fake. The flavor is more refined on the strawberry and more like a corn/wheat mix and a little perfumy. This is one of the few strawberry beers that Iíve actually been able to tolerate. But itís still not something Iíd look to have again. Better than the hardywood strawberry, thatís for sure.

Pours a clear gold with a small white head. Smells of strawberry!, lemon, malty bread. Taste is sweet, mildly bitter - candy strawberries, malty sweetness - like fruit Whoppers - almost like a bad kids cereal.

Serving: 12 oz. bottle from State Line Liquors. It pours a hazy deep gold.with a small white head. The nose smells like strawberry candy with slight floral notes. There is a mix of pleasant graininess and strawberry candy. A bit fruity for my taste, but well made. Nice crisp finish. Unfortunately the strawberry and the beer seem to be clashing instead of working together. A touch artificial perhaps.

12oz bottle. Slightly hazy orange-tan, lots of what I would assume to be strawberry floaties. Big sweet candy strawberry flavor. A pretty tasty beverage, but leans into the almost artificial strawberry tones instead of going for a sublime, malty, balanced offering. Probably pretty tasty in itís original form. OK.

Smells like strawberry shortcake and syrup. I really didnít enjoy this. Tons of strawberry that almost gives it a Jolly Rancher character, which is strange given itís all fresh strawberries. Just couldnít stand it though.

Bottle. Straw body with sediment, thin tight off-white head. Nose of strawberry purťe and biscuit. The effect of the strawberry is a bit different in the body, where it adds a tannic, tart element to the otherwise light biscuity, grassy body. Not very sweet. Bland and a bit off-putting.

Pour is a clear yellow with an average whtie head. Aroma is of nice fresh strawberries. So much so it makes me think there is someting artificial about it. Flavor is strawberry and some sweetness that brings things down a bit. Finish leaves a strawberry sweetness on the tounge. Itís ok if you like strawberries. There are tons of things floating in this. This would be a beer my mom would like.

12 ounce bottle. Pours a light gold with a decent white head. Aroma of sweet strawberries. Taste is strawberries, a bit of malt, and a touch of grain. Too sweet for me.

UPDATED: APR 27, 2013 12oz bottle, courtesy of Boston Beer. Thanks! Pours a hazy, deep golden color; modest retention and fine-bubbled lacing. Loads of pulpy strawberry jam in the aroma, without much else; certainly sweet. Medium body; medium, fine-bubbled carbonation; following the aroma, there?s just a ton of strawberry jam here, accompanied by basic sugary sweetness and not much else. Finish is residual sugar and berries.
