COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The first of this year’s winners, Dave Anderson, works in the packaging department at Sam Adams. His submission, a Strawberry Lager, is described as “a bright and fresh wheat beer, with a strong strawberry character balanced with toffee and citrus notes – the brewer’s vision of the perfect summertime beer to enjoy after a round of golf on a hot day. Brewed with fresh strawberries, this beer pours a bright golden color and imparts a malty sweetness with hints of lemon and earthiness. Strawberry Lager finishes with a wonderful intensive strawberry flavor without being overwhelming and leaves a lingering creamy sweetness on the palate.”

Bottle from Sprout’s: Poured a golden blonde liquid with chunks of sediment floating around while a thick fluffy pillow of foam rested on top. Aroma is shocking and actually smells like a strawberry field or a strawberry smoothie has made my mouth to start salivating. The beer hits different taste buds by starting off with bitter then hitting sweet and ending with salty. There is a slight taste of tart unripe strawberries along with the green top but this comes off as completely real and not artificial like most other fruit beers Sam Adams makes.

Bottle. Enjoy before: 08/13. A hazy amber pour with tons of floaties and a thick beige head on top. Loads and loads of tart strawberries dominate the aroma. A light breadiness, some sweet cereal grains, and a fair amount of honey in the mix too. Very appetizing. Thin to medium-bodied and crisp on the way down. Caramel and sweet cereal grains are present upfront taste-wise. Juicy strawberries dominate thereafter. A tad wheaty with a hint of lemon at the end. Packed with lots of strawberry flavor, but at no point do things become too cloying. Very nicely done.

Bottle. Pours hazy gold with a slight but persistent white head. Fairly thick lacing. Big sweet strawberry aroma. Taste is tart, sweet strawberries. A bit of cereal but not a lot. By far the best from this longshot sixer. could drink a few of these n a warm summer day. would probably got awesome with some BBQ.

12 ounce bottle into signature pint glass, best before 8/2013. Pours very cloudy golden amber color with a 2 finger dense and rocky off white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Spotty foamy lacing clings on the glass, with some light streaming carbonation. Aromas of big ripe strawberries, pear, light bread, light honey, and light floral hops. Very nice aromas with big strawberry presence; and good strength. Taste of lightly tart strawberries, pear, cracker, bread, floral, light honey, grass, and yeast earthiness. Lingering notes of strawberry, pear, cracker, bread, floral, grass, light honey, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a bit. Nice flavor balance of strawberry, malt, hop, and yeast esters; with zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth and moderately crisp mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a very good fruited lager style. Very nice balance of flavors; and very smooth to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

12oz bottle pours a clear gold with some thin, white head. Nose like strawberry toothpaste, sickly sweet. Scary flavor, gross, strawberry shampoo, creamcicle. Gross finish.

Really bright strawberry flavor. Slight grit at end. Not much going out here and I hadn’t just mowed the lawn.

12 oz bottle shared by DrSilverworm. Pours a clear golden color with a medium sized white head. The aroma is sweet strawberry, some citrus, pale malts with a hint of honey. The flavor was sweet strawberry, mild citrus, grass, pale malts. Not great, but 94+ on the golf course made it drinkable.

12 oz bottle poured into my Samuel Adams perfect pint glass. Pours a clear golden color with a medium white head tha leaves pretty good lacing. Smells of Strawberry, butter, toffee and sweet malt. Tastes of the all the same things with a slight sourness almost like lemon. Mouthfeel is watery but silky with decent carbonation. This is a really good lagered fruit beer. Nice to have strawberry flavor that actually works. It was nice and light which is good for the summer. Glad I was able to try it.
