COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The first of this year’s winners, Dave Anderson, works in the packaging department at Sam Adams. His submission, a Strawberry Lager, is described as “a bright and fresh wheat beer, with a strong strawberry character balanced with toffee and citrus notes – the brewer’s vision of the perfect summertime beer to enjoy after a round of golf on a hot day. Brewed with fresh strawberries, this beer pours a bright golden color and imparts a malty sweetness with hints of lemon and earthiness. Strawberry Lager finishes with a wonderful intensive strawberry flavor without being overwhelming and leaves a lingering creamy sweetness on the palate.”

Bottle. The pour light, like a typical lager. The aroma is strong strawberry, could smell it pouring out of the bottle. Very refreshing. The taste is very fruity. This beer, although not my style, is right on the mark for what they are going for.

The aroma is watery and lightly fruity with strawberries and metallic hops. The appearance is hazy gold with a medium head. The taste is like the aroma. The palate is smooth. Overall nothing special.

12oz bottle. Mostly clear yellow orange color. Lots of particles suspended in the body. Good thin, kind of rocky off-white head. Mostly loose splotches and ropes of lace. Great nose... Strawberry, like strawberry shortcake. Kind of creamy. Medium body. Light to medium body. Smooth, kind of soft, lighter carbonation. Lightly dry in the finish. Moderate sweet taste, light bitter, lightly tart. Great strawberry lager. Refreshing and tasty. Sweet, but not too sweet.

Bottle from Total Wine in Sacramento, CA. Pours dark gold with a foamy white head. Aroma is quite strawberry - just a wee bit cooked, but fairly close to fresh. Med body. Flavor is strawberry, but it’s a lot more cooked than fresh. Pretty good job of getting clear strawberry flavor in a beer. Maybe a wee bit of breadiness in the finish. Guess it was always there.

This was more like a strawberry soda.. Not much of a beer and this was very fizzy and light

From a bottle poured an amber color with a small amount of head. Light strawberry malty flavor with a quick finish.

bottle. Golden with small head. Big strawberry flavor. Usually strawberries in beer taste very artificial, but this seems legit. Flavors meld well. My wife would dig this.

Bottle. Pours a slightly cloudy pale yellow color with a small fizzy head that lingers nicely. Aroma is a mix of pale malt and strawberry puree. The taste seems like an odd mix of a pale lager and strawberries. Some lemony citrus notes show up in the finish too. The strawberry flavor is slightly artificial, but not too bad. Overall, its not terrible but I won’t drink this again. Many better fruit beers out there.

Crisp copper and orange coloured body with a thick, four centimetre tall thick white head with a nice orange glow. Aroma of pure strawberries, sugar, wheat, malt, raspberries and more icing sugar - amazing smell. Medium-bodied; Assertive strawberry flavour at first coupled with the strong malty taste and a hint of alcohol and wheat notes. Medium-bodied; Very nice and super pungent strawberry flavour - straight from a farm, amazingly sweet and flavourful. Aftertaste shows a good malt backbone, some hints of alcohol, sugars, grass and a bit of artificial strawberry notes. Overall, a very nice and strong beer with super pungent strawberry flavours, but they all work well and show off extremely nice relative to the style and depth of the beer. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Wegman’s in Sterling, Virginia on 03-May-2013 for US$1.67 sampled at home on the Eastern Shore of Virginia on 14-June-2013.

Rating from 6/10/13. 12 oz bottle from the mixed sixer. Pours slightly hazy gold with particles floating around under a nice white head with great retention; leaves some lace. Smells like strawberry wafers. Taste is sweet, a little tart, finishing dry and a little bitter. Nice strawberry flavor and aroma. Palate is fairly thin, watery. Showed some promise but it’s a little too watery.
