2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
12oz bottle poured into pint glass. This is the beer that sold me on the Sam Adams Spring Sampler pack. Pours a dark brown with a decent light tan head that leaves a fair amount of lacing. Not getting a whole lot of aroma here. Faint roasted malts, slight pecan and maple. Nothing much at all. Taste is malts up front and a bit too strong. Maple and pecan come in behind the malts, but both are somewhat watered down and dulled. Strong maple taste in the finish. Medium body, somewhat thin, slick texture, average carbonation. Big disappointment, although I probably had my expectations too high. Certainly nothing special though.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Dark look, almost black in color with garnet highlights, ok beige head. The smell is roasty, malts, maple, nuts, and ok. The taste is sweet, maple, syrup, sugary. Somewhat interesting, decent but a little to sweet.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Reviewed 2/17/13. 12 oz bottle into a Duvel tulip.
A: Pours a very dark burgundy color. The head is a one finger light mocha color that fades quickly. At least it leaves a nice collar of lacing on the glass.
S: Obviously, this comes off like a sweeter porter - not just from the prevalent (and decently executed, to be honest) maple notes, but also from the tones of chocolate, hazelnut, pecan, and molasses. Not much in the way of roasted qualities here. Itís sweet, but I honestly really like it.
T: Right from the start, a huge jolt of maple opens up the flavor profile. This big sweetness will give way to a slightly drier nutty finish. There isnít much depth - itís more or less just maple, nuts, with touches of dry chocolate to tie the two notes together - but whatís here is quite enjoyable. It becomes a bit cloying near the bottom of the glass, though.
M: The palate feel is a bit insubstantial in its texture, but this helps tone down some of the (otherwise) strong carbonation. Given its level of sweetness on the aftertaste, I could really use more body here.
O: A successful gimmick beer - this is a showcase for the maple syrup and pecan qualities, nothing more, nothing less. A bit too sweet for my tastes, but Iíd be lying if I said I didnít enjoy this.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
12oz bottle. The pour was a clear dark mahogany brown with an average (1-2 finger) light tan rocky head that had decent retention, reducing to a medium film and large collar with good spotty lacing.
The aroma I thought was a little off, although still somewhat appealing of a roasted bread malt and a doughy yeast with notes of milk chocolate, dark roasted coffee, maple syrup, a mild nuttiness and a lingering odor or cardboard.
The taste was malty sweet and very roasty with a hint of chocolate early on, becoming a tad bitter with a decent coffee presence along with a slight maple sweetness and a hint of smoke at the end. The flavor lasted an average duration after the swallow with a lingering roastiness left behind.
Mouthfeel was medium in body with a lightly dry, oily texture and a lively carbonation.
Overall I was quite glad the taste of this brew was more appealing than the aroma. It possessed a nice nutty roastiness along with a light smoky sweetness, very nice... www.facebook.com/KAJIIsBeerReviews

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
From a twelve ounce bottlw that was part of the Samuel Adams 2013 "Spring Thaw" variety pack - Alright, Iím rather surprised by this dark brown hued porter brew.... isnít it supposed to be darker for the type? Well, that doesnít
really matter, since the beer has a very good flavor with both the maple follow through and the pecan bitter finish being well balanced and good! A fine beer!

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
12 oz bottle. Pours caramel brown with a small off white head. Foamy lace clings to the pint glass all the way through. Artificially sweet maple and nut aroma. Flavor is also quite sweet with maple, nuts, light chocolate and roasted malt. Moderate bodied with low carbonation and a slightly bitter finish.
