Sample. Nice balance of maple syrup, pecan, and roasty nutty character in a porter. Not bad.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Poured a deep, clear mahogany color with a light tan head. Aroma is chocolate, coffee, caramel, nuts, raisin, floral, and molasses. Taste is pecan, chocolate, honey, tobacco, coffee, and a very faint maple. Really liked this one and wish it was available for purchase by itself.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Best before June 2013.
Appearance: The body is clear with a deep garnet hue. The head has an average height for a porter with a tan color and great retention. Even 10 minutes after the pour there’s a creamy coating.
Aroma: The aroma is definitely of maple syrup and pecan. I wasn’t this to actually smell like it, but it does. The smell has decent strength and leans sweet.
Taste: Sam has delivered on another nutty brown beer, the first being Hazel Brown. This has a nice maple syrup flavor throughout with a pecan finish that is unmistakable. Well done.
Palate: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.
Overall: It’s a shame that Sam will likely never make this a beer available outside of variety 12 packs. This is a great beer that is exactly how you would expect it to be from the name.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a red-brown color with a modest off white head. Aroma has a strong nutty presence with modest amounts of chocolate, coffee, toffee and sweet caramel malt and strong maple syrup. Flavor starts off with a strong maple syrup sweetness which transitions to a strong nutty and modest chocolate flavor with a light coffee acidity and bitter flavor at the very end. Body is modest with a sugary feeling and modest carbonation. Definitely a unique brew. Not sure if I would want another one as its pretty sweet as a whole.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pie like aroma that is very sweet. Taste is also very sweet. Pie, sugar and pecans come to mind. Slight metallic taste here and there. Sweetness really lingers. Couldn’t drink many of these because they are too sweet. Medium mouth. If you want a beer that tastes like a pie, this is it.

4.8 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
One of the finest brews I’ve had in a long time. Great nose, even better finish with the pecan, the maple flavor was just right, not overpowering. Winner of 1st place overall at our "Beer Fest II" sampling party in February.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20
Black with a thin tan head. Aroma is similar to sweetened coffee. Flavor is sweet maple syrup with a roasted coffee back. Very slight not of toasted pecans. Maybe a little light in body, but overall pretty solid.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: AUG 2, 2013 Not much maple on the nose and only slightly in flavour. There is a hint of roasted pecan. They need to re-work this one a tad bit. Much potential here.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
It poured a dark brown color with a small tan head. The aroma was of light roast, maple, some pecans and a touch of vanilla. The taste was pretty much the same with roastiness and some maple added. It had a subtle pecan flavor and was thin on the palate as well.
