3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Poured dark reddish brown color with an average frothy off-white head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Moderate roasted malt and maple aroma. Medium body and smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. This beer is better then my expectations.

Bottle from spring variety pack. Poured turbid dark brown with minimal tan head. Nose was vienna malt, nuts, maple. Tastes somewhat sweet, with a definite pecan/nut element, some cacao, malt, and finishing maple flavor. Good, but not better than your standard nut brown ale.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle:   Deep brown, strong burgundy hues, thin to moderate frothy light beige head, spotty lacing.   Roasted malt nose, faint maple syrup and perhaps pecans.   Sweet on the tongue, pecans are more noticeable here.
Roast malts arenít as strong.   More maple syrup as it warms.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Finishes sweet, nutty, with maple syrup and candied pecans.   Needs to actually have a bit more bitterness to
counteract the sweetness.   As is, not bad.   On the sweet side for sure.   Enjoyable, but bring me more of that roasted bitterness and then this would be exceptional!

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Tap @ the South Bend 2011 Brewfest: Deep brown with some ruby and purple highlights, tan creamy head. The aroma has notes of maple syrup, smoke, walnuts, dates, prunes, caramel, and grassy hops. The taste is twangy, nutty, smoky with some charred black malts and some dark fruits as well. Not a sweet as I feared it would be. The mouth feel is smooth and a bit ashy. This is an okay beer but still seemed a bit one-dimensional.
