Samuel Adams is bringing you Maple Pecan Porter. A nutty syrupy porter that just reeks of New England.
Sweet New England maple syrup and a distinct pecan note define this balanced porter. The roasted character of our blend of malts complements the maple sweetness with hints of coffee and chocolate. Reddish-black in color, this full-bodied brew has a sweet and slightly nutty finish.

12oz bottle from Spring Thaw pack. Pours a very dark brown with small beige head. Aroma of coffee and dark chocolate. Good flavor profile, I can taste the roasted malt of this porter along with the maple syrup and nuttiness from the pecans. Full bodied with creamy mouthfeel and a somewhat sweet finish. I enjoyed this.

This beer is my all time favorite Sam Adams beer. I was highly disappointed to find out it has been discontinued for the time being. It is a nice light beer with just enough maple and pecan flavor.

Best by date of 09.02.2014. Pored from a 12 oz bottle into a tumbler on 02.04.14. A: Black/red. Some see through. Tan head. S: Caramel mostly, also coffee, chocolate, toffee. T: Caramel, coffee, toffee are dominant. Pecan, chocolate, maple are there too. M: Creamy. Very light feeling in the mouth. O: This is like having a maple bar in drinkable form. It has maple syrup in it, according to the label, and you can tell. Thereís quite a bit of complexity too. This is a great porter.

I can definitely find the maple syrup and pecans in the aroma - itís like a beer pancake. I am also getting roasted malt, some milk chocolate and a cappuccino-like coffee scent. Very good and complex aroma for such a mainstream brewery. Looks great; brown, nearly black with off white head that is somewhat sticky and dense. Flavor is roasty, bitter with tons of pecan and some syrup in the aftertaste. A little too sweet; I donít think I could drink more than one, but I knew what I was getting into when I bought this. Weak palate, but in my opinion thatís what most separates craft beers from their mass-produced counterparts. I canít believe how much I liked this offering from Sam Adams. Very complex and unique.

Pours unclear dark thick amber with a creamy sandy colored head and a bit of a ring of lacing. The aroma brings toasted malts and fresh nutty maple as well. The flavor brings a brilliant blend of maple, caramel, nuts, and toasted malts that go down smooth on a lighter body.

12oz bottle - Found in the Spring sampler pack, picked up at Costco for $22.99 a case. Not bad. Aroma is definitely nutty, like crushed walnut/pecan shells. A touch of alcohol also shows up. Subtle maple syrup also makes an appearance as does a Tootsie Roll pop with just a bit of root beer. It smells kind of sweet too, but it doesnít come thru on the flavor. I think with a bit more complexity and sweetness this beer would be great. Light sweetness brings out the maple/pecan flavors, but the porter notes are lacking a bit. Itís a pretty simple beer and done well. No complaints.

This pours a dark brown color with a foamy beige head. The aroma is very malty with hints of maple and pecan. The flavor is thinner than expected but rather interesting. There are some very nutty tones with just a touch of maple shinning through. Not my favorite Sam Adams brew yet has an interesting flavor for the ingredients.

"A little on the thin side for mw, but not overly so. The body and flavor was light, though fairly complex. Sweetish malt, slight roast and chocolate. Definitely quaffable, which is what SA is good at. Would have liked more pecan, but thatís hard to do. Only in the aftertaste. Pleasant brew, though."

THOUGHTS: Lots of maple syrup. A bit overly sweet. Decent base porter. Nuttiness was more noticeable in the aroma. TECHNICAL: Drank 3/11/2013. Bottle. Poured a clear, very dark red was dark brown in the glass with an average, tan head that mostly diminished and left good lacing. The aroma contained moderate roasted and nutty malts; maple syrup and a hint of cherry. The initial flavor was moderately sweet and slightly bitter; while the finish was moderately sweet, lightly bitter and slightly sour. There was maple syrup; roasted malt, nuttiness, sour coffee, coffee, hints of chocolate and slight cherry. The medium body was lightly syrupy with fizzy carbonation and an ever so slightly metallic finish.

355ml bottle. Pours an opaque dark brown with thin caramel coloured head. Aroma is of maple syrup, toffee and malts. Really nice smooth taste. I could taste the maple syrup. Iíve never had pecan nuts or pie but this was definitely a bit nutty. Nice.

Transfer from BA review on 2-16-13- Poured from bottle into a pint glass Appearance- Pours a deep brown color with a cream colored head. The head fades rather fast leaving a medium level of lacing on the sides of the glass. Smell- The aroma is a mainly sweet, being a mix of maple syrup and toffee with light roasted malt and chocolate notes as well as a nutty aroma. Taste Ė The taste is as the nose would predict. It begins with a roasted malt and chocolate and brown bread flavor and a big sweetness of maple syrup and brown sugar up front. The sweeter and bready flavors last throughout the whole taste and are joined by a nutty flavor more toward the middle and the end of the taste. In the end the combo of flavors leaves a sweet and lightly roasted nut flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel- The body of the beer is average in terms of thickness and the carbonation level is average as well . A bit of a thicker body may have been better for the roasted, maple and nutty flavors of the brew, but overall it wasnít too bad as the thinner body did make it a bit easier to drink with all the sweetness. Overall- A little too much sweetness and not quite enough roastiness in a porter for me. Not really my fave of the Sams.
