This rich dark gingerbread stout entices with the aromas of the holidays. The flavor of gingerbread comes alive, beginning with the smooth sweetness and heartiness of dark roasted malts and a touch of wheat. But itís the intensity and spices of cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, & ginger that add a wicked kick for a jolly playful brew full of merry mischief.

22oz bottle poured into a Stem glass at 40į. Color is black with good carbonation and a nice tight brown head with a few big bubbles on top. Aroma is deeply roasted with Christmas spices, the ginger seems to stand out. It has a bolder medium body and a lighter somewhat fuzzy mouth feel. Flavor is roasted, just a hint of coffee coming across then a bit of chocolate. The spices jump out next, clove and nutmeg leading, then ginger and just a touch of cinnamon with the hops giving it a very light citrus and pine on the end. After taste has a rich feel with the spices hanging on and a light bitterness. Wow, overall there is a lot going on in this and although I donít like all these spices in a brew this is balanced and drinkable.

Dark black pour. Light head. Aroma is very similar to a pumpkin beer. Taste is a lot like a ginger bread man. There is quite a bit of sweetness to start but gives way to all the spices. Very rich. An imposing beer. ---Rated via iPhone

Bomber poured a clear dark reddish brown nearly black with a lasting brown head. Aromas of ginger, cinnamon, clove, carmel and dark chocolate. Palate was medium to full bodied and smooth. Flavorsof clove, cinnamon, ginger, carmel and dark chocolate with a smooth lingering spiced finish.

Aroma- spices including cinnamon, nutmeg, some ginger, slight chocolate and roasted notes Appearance- pitch black with a solid white head Taste- spices upfront, nice roasted notes in the mid-palate, some pastry sweetness on the finish Palate- decent body and mouthfeel, although Iíd prefer a touch less carbonation Overall- Somewhat novelty brew from Sam Adams but quality nonetheless. Itís always good to push the envelope and Sam Adams has been doing that quite well of late.

BLARGH!! Maybe it just ainít my thang but this is quite gross for me. Pours like a stout and looks nice. The aroma is predominately gingerbread and a sour-type smell reminiscent of a sour, for some reason. Typical stout roastiness very faint in the background. Flavor is over-the-top gingerbread and feels unbalanced. Roasty stout goodness in the aftertaste. Slightly medicinal in nature. MIGHT pair this with a dessert but, otherwise, me no likey. Might be a drain pour for me. Sorry.

Draft at Hopjacks Filling Station. Pours a coffee brown with a small beige head. Big spicy aroma. Notes of nutmeg, brown sugar, cinnamon, chocolate, roasted malts. Really works as gingerbread. Light-medium body - a little thin. Mild carbonation. Spicy mouthfeel. Solid.

Shared by bfeld. Pour was brown black, thin initial head. Aroma of gingerbread (surprise), chocolate. Flavor included all of that and some molasses. Mouthfeel was full but highly drinkable, excellent ginger bread man flavors, the bready party being key, as Iím not a big ginger fan. Really done quite well, kinda like the pumpkin beers that taste like a pie vs. a spicey mess. Thanks, bfeld!

Pours a deep dark brown with a thin tan head that dissipates quickly. Trace amount of lacing. Aroma of ginger and brown sugar dominates, with a cloying sweetness that doesnít leave room for much else. Taste is much more complex, however. Yes, the beer is sweet and ginger drives the flavor. But spices of nutmeg and cinnamon are more apparent, as is vanilla. Roasted malts are noticeable, but clearly in the background. Alcohol is well hidden. Mouthfeel is a watery, a bit thinner than might be expected for a stout. In sum, a mild, okay stout that allows some real Christmasy flavors come through.

Bottle. Pours near black with a thin head. Sweet malts, ginger, cinnamon, ginger bread, and lighter roasted malty notes. Pretty good balance of stout and spice.
