This rich dark gingerbread stout entices with the aromas of the holidays. The flavor of gingerbread comes alive, beginning with the smooth sweetness and heartiness of dark roasted malts and a touch of wheat. But itís the intensity and spices of cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, & ginger that add a wicked kick for a jolly playful brew full of merry mischief.

[Bottle] Nearly black pour with a healthy amount of light brown foam on top. Fragrant aroma of gingerbread, clove, anise intermingled with general deep roasty notes. Rich breads, cinnamon, fruitcake, ginger, bitter chocolate and clove round out the flavor. Light alcohol warming. Wonderful balance is what really puts this beer over the top for me. Itís easy to overdo the ginger flavor in beers like this, but this one has just the right amount of gingerbread. Tasting notes from 2/2014.

The appearance had a dark black colored body yielding a beautiful two finger dark tan head that lasts for at least a good two minutes. As the head starts to dissipate, some nice spider web lacing appears around the sides of the pint glass. Some rings eventually appear. The body is too dark for any carbonation to be seen rising. The smell had "Christmas" in all sorts of ways with ginger, pumpkin, nutmeg, cloves and allspice all up front giving a nice punch in the nose. Some nice roasted coffee and chocolate come out more so as the beer warms a bit. The smell takes all of those previously mentioned flavorings and combines very nicely for a bitter/sweet/dry taste that meets a robust sort of taste that meets a bit above the standard for the season. The palate was a bit heavy, a nice small sipper that will make me satisfied for the rest of the day. It has a fairly smooth dry finish. Though a fairly high ABV, still the alcohol is slightly undetectable. Overall, this turned out better than I thought it would be, perhaps I was thinking this was going to be a malt bomb, but it still had some nice bitter/dry aspects a good "stout" should have. I would say this was good for the style and for me.

Pours thick and dark black with frothy tan head that lasts. Aroma is strong of nutmeg. Taste is sweet - just barely on the safe side of sickeningly so. The "gingerbread" spices come through strong.

This was decent. The aroma didnít give up as much of the gingerbread as did the flavor. In fact, as an aroma goes, it smelled...like a stout. Moderate palate. O.k. Bottle.

Draft at Federal taphouse Lancaster. Pours black with a thin khaki head. Doesnít leave much lacing. Big gingerbread on the nose with a hint of alcohol. Thankfully the gingerbread doesnít fade on the tongue and goes nickey with the stout base. Finishes fairly clean. Hides the booze well. Itís one of the better Sam Adams beers.

(bottle - 22 oz) Dark brown pour with a thin tan head. Very nice and inviting ginger, nutmeg and light clove aroma. Ginger and cinnamon start the flavor that moves into a very lightly roasted malt and chocolate middle with a warming and spicy finish. A bit thin for a stout but really tasty.

Pours opaque black with a 3-finger caramel-colored head. Mild spice aroma, with the clove being strongest. Full body with some oily thickness that lingers on the tongue at the back. Chocolatey flavor with the spices underneath and coming forward in the finish. Very nice.

The Merry Maker pours black with a fairly thick dark tan brown head that leaves fair lacing. The aroma is ginger, cinnamon and clove. The flavor is ginger, cinnamon and clove. Overall this is a decent beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
