This rich dark gingerbread stout entices with the aromas of the holidays. The flavor of gingerbread comes alive, beginning with the smooth sweetness and heartiness of dark roasted malts and a touch of wheat. But itís the intensity and spices of cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, & ginger that add a wicked kick for a jolly playful brew full of merry mischief.

Bottle from South Bay Liquor: Created a thick development of foam head which took several minutes to retreat while the stout appeared a dark blackish brown hue. Aroma is decked with scent of real ginger bread cookies with notes of cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg really tricks my mind into the notion that I am about to actually eat a gingerbread man cookie. As for the drink, the same ingredients become more apparent in the flavor but then also bring out the dark roast malts that ensure that this really is a stout. In the finish, there is a harsh astringent aftertaste that kind of ruins the fun of drinking this beer.

Poured into a snifter out of a 22oz bomber. Pours pitch black with a fairly thick one finger dark tan head. While head retention isnít especially outstanding, the lacing is. This is really a nice looking beer. Gingerbread is huge in the aroma along with a healthy dose of clove. Really no subtleties here. Some cinnamon and allspice but I really have to try hard to pick out any stout characteristics. Almost no roast, coffee, or chocolate. A little too spice heavy. On the taste, there is a little more going on. Still extremely heavy on the spices with ginger, nutmeg and allspice dominating. Peel that back, however, and you have some vanilla and cinnamon notes along with some hints of baked bread, molasses, and brown sugar. I honestly tastes like taking a bite of a gingerbread man. You really need to let the beer warm up a little for the flavors to make a big impact. Mouthfeel is thick and creamy but the sweetness remains dialed back enough to make this fairly drinkable. I have to say I had my doubts at first but Samuel Adams has really pulled off a good one. This beer is so gingerbread like it is scary. Like someone put a pulverized gingerbread man into a stout. I really wish I wouldíve tried this earlier so I could have picked up another bottle to age.

Bottle. Pitch with creamy mocha head and dense lacing. Smells roasty, almost smoky, sweet and spiced. Flavor follows- but slightly disjointed- and a little overkill. Syrupy.

From the bottle poured a very dark brew with a thick, foamy, dark brown head. Aroma of ginger bread cookies. Full bodied with a nice feel and the flavors of ginger bread cookies and a nice hop presence.

On tap at Capone's in Norristown, PA. This is the definition of a dessert beer. The gingerbread flavors are great. Incredibly smooth. Perfect for enjoying slowly after a meal.

From a growler, pours a dark brown/black color with a mediump khaki head that leaves light lacing. Smells of gingerbread and spices and a hint of chocolate. Tastes of gingerbread, spices, chocolate and molasses. Mouthfeel is thick and creamy with great carbonation. Overall this is a great tasting winter spiced stout with a gingerbread touch. Too bad it only available this winter since its part of their batch one series.

Pours dark and black with a thin but dense brown head. Nose is definitely gingerbread, but one could say pumpkin pie as you can get cinnamon, cloves, ginger, molasses and some hints of chocolate. The taste is sweet, but not over the top as one would think from the nose, the bitterness balance is great and come through a lot on the end. The mouthfeel is silky smooth, creamy, heavy and has a long finish. Nice treat.

22 ounce bottle - $6.99 at Bullockís Wine & Spirits in Woodstock, Georgia.

Appearance: Pours out a very dark brown body with a thickish, tan-hued head of foam.

Smell: Roasty, dark malts with notes of bitterish chocolate, dark caramel, a little toast, a hint of fruit, and good showing of the spice blend.

Taste: A start of solid maltiness of toast mingled amongst the roastiness. Dark chocolate squares, spiced caramel. Moderate sweetness. Scant fruitiness. A pinch of standard sugar with the spice character. MMGS features each component nicely, without me quickly tiring of the spices. The roastiness pulls back a bit to let the spices close out the smooth, creamy finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation, a bit soft. Smooth mouthfeel overall.

Overall: Well-integrated alcohol and the spice character was pleasant without being over-the-top. I thought it was better than I had expected.

Pours the deepest brown-black (looks like motor oil) with a very bubbly, fast-diminishing brown head. Aroma is ginger, cinnamon, cloves, vanilla, fruit, brown sugar. Holy wow. Taste is a flavor explosion; licorice, ginger, mint, cloves, some sweetness, and a bitter chocolate finish. Spotty lacing. Medium-high carbonation. This was really interesting. I am so glad I found some bottles of this. Iím going to call this a success. Itís flavorful, itís drinkable, itís pretty strong. I like it.

[Bottle] Pours very dark brown with a nice brown head. Aroma lives up to the deScription, with lots of spice (nutmeg, clove--I actually would have guessed allspice as well if not for the deScription). Very mild ginger. Taste is quite nice, and markedly improves with warming. Spice integrated very nicely. Hit of alcohol early, then becomes well restrained. Medium-thin mouthfeel, smooth, very dry, long finish. Overall, a very nice spiced beer.
