COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This rich dark gingerbread stout entices with the aromas of the holidays. The flavor of gingerbread comes alive, beginning with the smooth sweetness and heartiness of dark roasted malts and a touch of wheat. But it’s the intensity and spices of cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, & ginger that add a wicked kick for a jolly playful brew full of merry mischief.

22oz bottle served in a pint glass. Very herby and Christmasy - much more like gingerbread rather than ginger.

Appearance: Pours a very dark brown with a tan head that subsides to nothing.

Aroma: Sweet chewy gingerbread, molasses, mild roast.

Taste: Gingerbread/ginger snap cookie, dark roast, mild Euro hops. Alcohol level is well hidden.

Mouthfeel: Full bodied, but not thick by any means. Very active carbonation, making it seem spicy.

Overall: A very festive, tasty beer. The spices are spot on without being overpowering or overbearing. My only critique would be it needs more of a “stout body” to it. I say that because when I think of gingerbread, I think of thick and chewy. Drank closer to what I’d consider a porter.

Ar: a malty smell with cinnamon and sweetness, mixed with spices. Ap: a very dark pour with a thick mocha head. T: a sweet taste with cinnamon and nutmeg. Gingerbread. P: nice and thick with a lingering spiciness. A very good gingerbread stout. I will buy again next winter/Christmas.

1/05/2014: Samuel Adams Merry Maker Gingerbread Stout... Dark, rich, and roasty with tons of smooth and creamy dark and milk chocolate spiked with a great blend of ginger, cinnamon, and nutmeg; everything blends together harmoniously to create a beer that is full-bodied and full-flavored, but not too spicy, too sweet, or too heavy. This beer is DELICIOUS and a WONDERFUL example of how to make a gingerbread stout! Bottle (9.0 ALC/VOL) from The Party Source in Bellevue, KY. Rating #402 for this beer.

Bottle. Dark pour with brown head. Smells of toasted malts, ginger and other spices. Tastes like a stout with ginger and cinnamon. Very good ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Had this as Merry Mischief Gingerbread Stout last time it was out. The bottle pours with a dark mahogany colored body that supports a tan head of foam. The aroma offers up a mix of dark roasted malts, chocolate, ginger, graham cracker and wintery spiciness. The taste is pretty big and rich with plenty of cinnamon and ginger and nutmeg and cloves to create a wintery cinnamon graham cracker to ginger snap cookie like sensation that rides on top of murmurs of roasted malts, sweet malts and chocolate. Pretty nice.

Rich, thick, beige head that leaves chunky lace on the glass. Dark, dark brown color where no light shines through. Spicy aroma of ginger, nutmeg and white pepper. No dark malt aromas that I can detect. Tastes like a bitter gingerbread cookie, not because it’s burnt, but as if it has no sugar. This misses the mark on the stout side. It’s full bodied with a low carbonation level. The aftertaste is chocolatey with plenty of cinnamon and nutmeg.

Bottle. Deep brown almost black. Nice big, brown foamy head that quickly disappears. Aroma is gingerbread. Taste is also gingerbread sweet. Almost too sweet. Very light notes of chocolate and cinnamon.

Pours nearly black. Aroma of gingerbread is present, little to no head. Seems mild to under carbonated. Taste. Taste is a mix of almost burnt tasting malts, overdone clove and ginger. It’s almost gag inducing and very unpleasant for mouthfeel. Let it sit for about 10 minutes to see if it was too cold. Gag inducing taste is still there. Finished about 1/4 of a 16 oz glass before drain pouring the rest. Save your money for something better, because a pint of this stuff isn’t very merry at all.

Bottle sample at a tasting. Thanks Alex. Pours brown with a tan head. In the nose: gingerbread, chocolate and spices. Moderate sweet with touches of ginger, nutmeg, clove, cinnamon and chocolate with mild roasty bitterness. Medium-bodied. Nice beer.
