650 ml. "Merry Maker" aliased bottle. Opaque with a lasting film of creamy foam. Nose is coffee, chocolate toffee, dark bread, subdued ginger. Later hints of merlot, tobacco and soy sauce. Taste is spicy dark chocolate, peppery ginger, soy sauce, espresso and black strap molasses. Heavy body has a nice balance, is tingly with spices and a medium carbonation thatís mostly smooth. Only a faint trace of the 9% and it provides a nice chest-warming afterglow on a cold evening. The big stout malts are probably the only delivery vehicle through which I could tolerate such a heavy dose of ginger; well done Sammy.

Good job with delivering an advertised flavor. Too often a beer is sold on a flavor and doesnít come through. Not here, itís a stout that has a gingerbread flavor. If you you donít like stouts or gingerbread stay away. The availability is great, but doesnít sway score. Great offering from Sam.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
"Merry Maker" version. Aroma is chock full of Christmasy spices. Cinnamon and cola. A hint of nutty/hazelnut malts, but this might go well mixed with a liquor. There is almost a doughy/glazed doughnut aroma, as well as vanilla. A touch of a chocolate Italian cookie. They could make a candle out of this thing.
Deep dark brown color. Decent head that dissipates quickly. No lacing on the side to speak of.
The flavor is chalky, with a load of sugary spices. I suppose itís like gingerbread, but more like a gingersnap cookie. There is a certain dry/hay kind of flavor profile; grainy. Chocolate sugar cookies.
It has an oily, thick feel. Dry as a bone at the end. If you like dry, Italian cookies, this is your beer. Iím not knocking it at all: itís a nice little winter warmer (it basically is, isnít it?), that would be welcome out of a snifter or some kind of stemmed glass.

Black throughout with a creamy large brown milkshake like topper that fades into a ring of lace. Aroma is sweet and spicy with ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, caramel, chocolate and dark roasted malt. Sweet and tasty with ginger, nutmeg, cinnamon, chocolate, roasted malt and caramel and a spicy finish

Called "Merry Maker", which I believe we have decided is the same beer. Smells like cofffee and gingerbread, with a touch of chocolate. Taste is also coffee an gingerbread, with a touch of coconut (?), and cinnamon. Pretty tasty...

Beautiful dark black with thick foamy tan head. Sweet with noticeable ginger. Loads of spices. Hints of chocolate in the background. Ginger lasts on the palate for awhile. Tasty novelty brew. Hides the 9% well.

Bought at Liquor Shed. Now relabeled as Merry Maker.
Gorgeous looking brew in the glass, pitch black with a 1 finger head of tan foam, nice lacing.
The name fits as far as the smell goes. Ginger Bread! I get some nice roasted malt notes too.
Ginger bread and roasted malt in the taste and Iím starting to dance, lol. Tasty, smooth as all dickens, no sign of the alcohol, did I mention tasty? This is a great brew to drink for the holiday season, I reckon.
I already mentioned how smooth it is so that has the mouthfeel covered.
Ahh...very VERY nice!

Pitch black with a dark brown foamy head with no carbonation and sparse laci. Smells like gingerbread, cinnamon, cloves, caramel and molasses. Strong ginger taste with some chocolate, cinnamon, roasted malts & barley. Body is thick with some mild carbonation. Alright but kinda bland flavor.

UPDATED: DEC 4, 2013 This is a good beer. Great smell. Black as fuck. Excellent taste. All around great. Their best stout for sure.
-------& Original rating based on 2013 Merry Maker. Just had a Batch 1 Merry Mischief and it is quite different. The gingerbread smell is better than ever. Thicker on the tongue. Good both ways. I have another bottle of Batch 1 that I have been saving to drink with some friends.
