3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pour out of 500 mL bottle, dark thick oily black pour with nice creamy mocha colored head, lots of carbonation streaming at first but subsided. Aroma brought notes of nice ginger, cinnamon, chocolate, roasted malts, hints of earth, touch of grainy notes, tiny bit of cookie notes. Taste is basically a spiced stout, some fairly nice roast, coffee, and dark chocolate tones mix with some slight earthy ginger, cinnamon, and clove, some slight caramel, grainy tones, finishing fairly sweet but dries out with the roast at the end. The mouthfeel was pretty nice, but was just slightly lacking in depth. Very tasty, and no sign of the 9%.

Bottle. Pours near black with a thin head. Sweet malts, ginger, cinnamon, ginger bread, and lighter roasted malty notes. Pretty good balance of stout and spice.

3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
3/8/13. 22oz bottle from Warehouse ages ago. Rich black pour, maybe some browns and reds under the light, with a nice tan head that cuts in half but coats the glass. Huge cinnamon aroma with bits of ginger, nutmeg, all-spice, molasses, etc. Not my cup of tea. I hate spiced beers. However. Boom. The flavor is... weirdly dead on. Spiced ginger, cinnamon, Christmas spices, burnt molasses, and more pretty dead on gingerbread aspects with a touch of roast. Meh aroma, good flavor. Yum.

Bottle sample at a tasting at the Beer & Beyond shop. Thanks Alex Shmoo-Shmoo.As Samuel Adams Merry Maker Gingerbread Stout. Black with a thin tan head. Aroma of cookies with ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg and a bit of chocolate. Sweetish flavor with chocolate, cookies, spices, some roastiness in the background and a bitterish finish. Medium to full-bodied. Decent.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Black, of course. Gingerbread cookie aroma wafts at least a foot away from the glass. If you get closer, you get more of an alcohol tease. It drinks quite nicely ... not as much gingerbread as I feared. Instead, a mellow cinnamon, holiday beer essence. Enjoyable holiday stout. (#4886, 1/3/2013)

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
The beer pours a very dark brown to black color with a tan head. The aroma has a lot of cinnamon and nutmeg notes, as well as some roasted malt. The flavor is very similar. The ginger and strong cinnamon notes really come through strongly. They are joined by some chocolate and roasted malt character that melds well with the spices. Medium to thick mouthfeel and medium carbonation. A very nice, spicy stout.

Tallahassee, Fl. - World Market - 22 oz bomber. Licorice black pour, initially thick but thins out khaki colored head, thin lacing. Aroma of licorice, Carbona cleaner, nutmeg and ginger. Full-bodied flavor that could get cloying if it does not settle down a bit, Notes of licorice, ginger snap cookies, a touch of nutmeg - some potting soil notes in the back end. Thickish, rich mouthfeel. Strong individually in all four categories but overall too cloying - 12 oz would have been enough.
