This rich dark gingerbread stout entices with the aromas of the holidays. The flavor of gingerbread comes alive, beginning with the smooth sweetness and heartiness of dark roasted malts and a touch of wheat. But itís the intensity and spices of cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, & ginger that add a wicked kick for a jolly playful brew full of merry mischief.

Bottle. Poured into a Sam Adams perfect pint glass with a nice layer of head. Aroma is full of gingerbread. Smells just like a cookie. The gingerbread is definitely noticable in the taste as well. Would like it just a bit more pronounced, but is by no means a weak taste. Nice body. At 9% there's a slight hint of alcohol in the taste. However, when cold the flavor of the stout hides it. One of Sam Adam's best brews and is a magnificent addition to their line of special releases. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Poured black with a medium dark and sandy-colored head. Held glass up to light, stout is typical as itís not translucent. Aroma is similar to gingerbread or gingerbread cookies. There is a slight alcohol scent which is lost in the warmth feeling produced by a stout that is reminiscent of an after dinner dessert. First sip is thick and leaves a mild film about the tongue leaving lingering flavors of mild cinnamon, pronounced gingerbread with an overlay of traditional stout flavors. Holding the second sip in the mouth, I taste stronger gingerbread notes. Five minutes after pouring, the head has diminished to a thin layer exposing the stout beneath. Overall, Merry Mischief Gingerbread Stout is perfect for the holidays. Itís very dessert-like and sip after sip is as pleasurable and full of taste as much asthe first, none of which leaves me wanting another style to relieve unwanted aftertastes. The gingerbread effect of this stout isnít overwhelming and is very inviting. Iíll be convincing my children Santa doesnít want milk and cookies this year, he wants gingerbread cookies to go with Merry Mischief.

Black with weak brown head. Licorice aroma that doea not follow through to tasting. Not very carbonated. Roasted malt, sweet with some cinnamon and nutmeg. Gingerbread comes through strong. Bitter ending fade s quickly. Love it.

Poured from 22 ounce bottle into imperial pint glass. Very dark pour with a thin tan head that faded to a ring. Quite a bit of lacing as consumed. Aroma is amazing! Just what you would expect from a ígingerbreadí stout. Lots of roasted malt, and all the gingerbread aromas are there too. Ginger, clove, cinnamon, nutmeg. All there in the taste too but pleasantly so. Not at all overpowering or cloying. Mouthfeel is full and thick and rich and sticky. Finish is long and spicy. 9% ABV is not at all noticeable. Typical carbonation for a stout...very soft. Very smooth and easy drinking. One tip...let it warm up a bit before drinking to really develop the aromas and flavors. This is so much better than any of the pumpkin beers I tried last month!

New name: Merry Maker. Not sure why they changed it. It is delicious! Dark, smooth, slightly roasted, spices, not as much ginger. Reminds me of the Fat Jack. Definitely worthy of 4 stars. I will be drinking this throughout the cold season for sure! Number 53 in my Sam Adams Collection. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: FEB 14, 2015 Pours black with a medium tan head. Aroma of gingerbread nutmeg brown sugar and other Christmas spices. Taste mainly of the Gingerbread and sweetness very little hop character. Medium on the palate. Overall very good very little alcohol tastes even though high ABV. As it warms up the gingerbread becomes more pronounced.

Bottle from 2012: Merry Mischief. This beer pours a very dark black with lots of smoke. Also has a thick dark tan frothy head. The aroma is lots of dark spices, nuttiness, burnt caramel, slight bitterness on the nose, vegetables, cinnamon, sugar, and almost a pumpkin pie with all the spices and sweetness. The taste has heavy ginger breadiness up front. It is super sweet and creamy. I also pick up cinnamon and other spices. There is some bitterness on the back end as well as some alcohol. This beer is complex but perfectly balanced.

This stout pours as black as coal left in Christmas stocking. One fingers worth of creamy gingerbread cookie colored head. The aroma is big, with heavy notes of nutmeg and ginger. Flavor notes of gingerbread, malts, and spice, complimented with a smooth rich body. The alcohol is nicely masked, but intensifies the closer you get to the bottom of the glass. The finish has notes of chocolate, cinnamon, and toffee.†A great holiday seasonal.
