COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This rich dark gingerbread stout entices with the aromas of the holidays. The flavor of gingerbread comes alive, beginning with the smooth sweetness and heartiness of dark roasted malts and a touch of wheat. But it’s the intensity and spices of cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, & ginger that add a wicked kick for a jolly playful brew full of merry mischief.

22 oz bottle. Dark brown with a bubbly balsa head. Nose is gingerbread, clove, nutmeg and light cinnamon. Really nailed the cookie thing. Medium body with a tang, alcohol emerges. Taste is caramel and ginger, cinnamon; getting bitter with clove then burnt gingerbread cookie. I liked the idea of a spiced stout but lost the base beer, ending up with the typical bitter spice aftertaste. Not without a certain brash appeal.

This beer is beautiful and delicious! i advise that you get it before the season is over. It is by far the best beer I have ever had by Samuel Adams, but not the best stout I’ve ever had. It is smooth with a short head and dark as night. The merry maker is extremely drinkable and for $5.50 for a bomber at 9% ABV, at that price you need to pick one up.

Unique beer and definitely leaned toward the stout category. Aroma of gingerbread, spice and malt. Dark brown color with a doughy look. Medium to heavy palate but not overbearing. It was dessert-like but not too sweet. A lot of spices like cinnamon and nutmeg mixed with ginger.

Pours dark as midnight with a huge tan foamy head. Aroma is like a Gingersanp. Taste is creamy. Crisp, a ginger spice is present. A nice brew by Sam Adams. They don’t always hit a homerun but, I love the fact they always try something different,

Pours a very dark brown, tan head. Aroma of spices and malt. Taste of a good stout, with gingerbread notes. Nice lingering flavors on the palate. Thumbs up.

22oz bottle - Picked this up to consume on Christmas Eve. This reminded me in many ways of Stone’s 12.12.12 VE as well as my own homebrew which was a Christmas beer. Lots of cinnamon, allspice, and nutmeg combo in the aroma and it comes out smelling like Pepsi/Coke almost. The taste is more of a traditional stout, with strong roasty flavors, low-to-moderate sweetness, a little ginger and dates. A nice beer, but not one I’d look for again next year. SA needs to step it up a bit with this one.

"As advertised, though this brew ends up a little heavier on the gingerbread than the stout, even at 9%! On one hand, it covers the abv expertly, but it needs a little more roast and mocha goin on to be taken seriously as an imperial stout. Glad to have tried it but itll be one a year at most."

Transfer from BA review on 12-27-12- Poured from growler into a snifter glass Appearance – Pours a nearly black color with a tiny tan head that fades very rapidly. Upon fading the head leaves only a very light level of lacing on the glass. Smell- The aroma is big of spice with heavy aromas of nutmeg, ginger, and cinnamon. Mixed with these spice aromas are some sweet brown sugar and caramel, some milk chocolate, a light boozy smell. Overall it smells like a alcohol infused cocoa gingerbread cookie. Taste –The taste starts out with a sweet milk chocolate flavor mixed with a strong ginger and nutmeg taste. These flavors remain throughout the taste with the ginger and nutmeg loosing potency as the taste moves on. More toward the middle, a cinnamon flavor quickly comes to the tongue. While it comes in quickly, like the other spice flavors, it lessens in intensity as the taste advances further. Notes of a caramel sweetness replace the milky sweet tastes at the end with the milk chocolate flavor taking on a more cocoa flavor. Also at the end a light coffee and a mildly warming alcohol taste come to the tongue leaving a nice spiced fairly sweet dark flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel –The body of the beer was on the average side with a carbonation level that was rather average to just above average for a imperial stout of 9% abv. The carbonation was good for the spiced flavors of the stout, but .a slightly thicker body may have been better for the darker flavors of the brew. Overall – A rather tasty stout with a nice sweet and spiced flavor. While rather heavy in the gingerbread cookie spices up front, they dwindle down as the taste advanced, never really getting the chance to overpower the brew and producing overall a rather nice and flavorful stout.

Pours a very dark brown with a dark espresso foam colored head. No head retention--otherwise a gorgeous pour. Cherry, spicy, smoky nose. Smooth, thick mouthfeel. Cherry, smoke, medicine, raisin, and fruitcake flavors.
