COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This rich dark gingerbread stout entices with the aromas of the holidays. The flavor of gingerbread comes alive, beginning with the smooth sweetness and heartiness of dark roasted malts and a touch of wheat. But it’s the intensity and spices of cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, & ginger that add a wicked kick for a jolly playful brew full of merry mischief.

THOUGHTS: Not all that different than a pumpkin stout. Not quite what I was expecting. It wasn’t bad, but it didn’t really live up to it’s label description. It did go nicely with Reese’s Pieces. Great label art. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a very dark brown that was basically opaque black in the glass with an average, light brown head that mostly diminished and left fair lacing. The aroma was fairly weak and contained gingerbread, light roasted and chocolate malts; brown sugar; lots of ginger; and other spices. Ginger is the dominant aroma. The initial flavor was moderately sweet and slightly bitter; while the finish was heavily sweet, lightly bitter, ever so slightly sour and slightly acidic with an average duration. There was chocolate, cookie, ginger, brown sugar, cinnamon, other spices, roasted malt, ginger bread, but mostly ginger and cinnamon. The medium body was oily and a bit creamy with fizzy carbonation and a slightly astringent finish.

From a 22 oz bottle shared at home. Pours black with a tan head. Aroma of ginger, cinnamon and cloves. Flavors of ginger bread. Smooth, oily mouthfeel. Sweet finish.

22oz bomber. Drinking it in Summer of 2014, probably bottled last winter. Deep brown-black body. Creamy beige head. The flavors bring me right back to Winter. Rich creamy, warm chocolate tones. Pumpkin pie spices..in the sense that if you told me this was an Imperial Pumpkin Porter I wouldn’t question it. Pretty nice, well exceeding my expectations.

Carbony, malty and hints of cinnamon. I liked it, but could probably drink like one or two beers.

22oz bottle picked up at Discount Liquor in Evanston
Pours almost black with a medium sized dark tan head and good lacing. Aroma is gingerbread, spices, dark malts and nutmeg. The taste is dark malts, cinnamon, nutmeg, chocolate and spice
Very nice. This is like gingerbread in a glass. I’m not usually a fan of this kind of beer, but this is good.

Had this when it was still called Merry Mischief. Reviewed from notes: pours a darker brown almost black color with tan head. Gingerbread, cinnamon, allspice, clove and nutmeg on the nose with a little roasted malt; follows onto the palate. Finishes sweet.

Pours a dark rusty brown with a large slowly fading creamy brown head. Aroma of sweet caramel malt, ginger bread and sugar cookie, molasses, nutmeg. Taste the same as aroma with mild toasted malt and bitterness. Palate is a medium to full body, good carbonation, mildly creamy. Finish the same as taste with a full flavored and mildly burnt toasted bitterness and dry ending. Overall would probably go well with some sugar or ginger bread cookies, a nice holiday brew.

pours black with a dark tan head. aroma is ginger, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Flavor is same with chocolate malts. thick mouth feel with medium to soft carbonation. This is really what it sounds like, not my favorite but definitely as advertised.

Beautiful black pour under a lasting khaki head.Rich nose of cocoa and ginger and nutmeg and cinnamon and cardamom and something that evokes soft salted pretzels from the movie theater. Big and full flavor with sweet earthy cocoa and cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, clove and a little more sweet cocoa. Still that bready pretzel tone is present to some degree but without the saltiness.

Pours a dark brown with a foamy tan head. Ginger and cloves are the dominate aromas. The head and body of the beer are largely ginger, while the finish turns to clove, cinnamon, and a hint of nutmeg. A very impressive (and delicious) spiced beer.

[Bottle] Nearly black pour with a healthy amount of light brown foam on top. Fragrant aroma of gingerbread, clove, anise intermingled with general deep roasty notes. Rich breads, cinnamon, fruitcake, ginger, bitter chocolate and clove round out the flavor. Light alcohol warming. Wonderful balance is what really puts this beer over the top for me. It’s easy to overdo the ginger flavor in beers like this, but this one has just the right amount of gingerbread. Tasting notes from 2/2014.
