A nice black body with a brown head. Which was about 2 fingers thick, but faded away quickly, leaving little retention and lace. Aroma had a nice bittersweet cocoa malt presence upfront. nice hints of roasted malts and nice gingerbread spices in the background. Initial flavor was sweet, mostly from bittersweet chocolate notes, Some nice roasted malt notes balanced out the sweetness. Finishing with a nice form ginger flavor, Some nutmeg was present but the ginger flavor really came through. Smooth and creamy finish.

Lots of spices in the aroma, with a bit of roasted malts. Solid black color with no head or lace, which is disappointing. Good spicy, gingery taste, but without a presence of the characteristic tastes of a stout. Weak overly sweet palate. Decent try. Maybe a bit mislabeled.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Merry mischief bottle from 2012. Whoops found this the other day and I had meant to drink it last year. Aroma - a hint of nutmeg, mild spice, roasted malts. Pour - Black viscous, lots of tan chocolate head. Taste - I get a fair bit of roasted malts, typical stout taste, a little bit of nutmeg sweetness but no doubt muted by the age. Overall- Well there is very little gingerbread here but in my humble opinion it still works as a nice stout with a mild hit of spice. Iíll have to try it fresh next time.

Pours a black brown color with a small ring of a brown head. Notes of roasted malt, nutmeg, chocolate muffins, ginger, and clove. Silky mouthfeel long finish. A little goopy

Its stuck in that limbo zone of being too thick to be anymore carbonated. However its too thin for the amount flavour it packs.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Outstanding dark pour w/ a nice mocha head that leaves a lot of lacing. A very spicy aroma draws you in. The taste is a huge spice concoction that is velvety smooth on the palate! Definitely unique & it all seems to come together to make 1 really good beer!

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours like silk. The darkest brown with a flourishing head of chocolate colored foam. Completely opaque yet it suggests ruby hues until you turn to natural light and find light and dark cola instead. Sheets of lace and a head that constantly refreshes.
Nose is authentic gingerbread with ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg. A little clove to round it out and a hint of dark fruit. The malt is stunning and complex. Blackened grain with a deep dryness and a touch of burnt sugar that gives way to a supple and light molasses. A golden wheat crispness. A touch of smooth vanilla and a hint of peat like earth.
Taste follows the nose with flavors that continue to unfold. The malt character adds a slight chocolate smoothness, the alcohol is a little hot and peppery with a dryness of itís own. The dark fruit is waiting far in the back for you to notice it. There is a taste in the very middle of the beer that is golden like a baked cookie from the wheat and black like a touch of burnt sugar on the bottom of a cookie. The roast continues to embolden itself in the drink as the molasses continues to smooth it out.
This beer was treat and I really liked it. Had all the dark and big roast of any well made stout plus the pleasant cookie spices. The malt was stalwart and unflinching, the earth was subtle. It leaves dry and with a slight bitter in the aftertaste to contrast the sweet and silken molasses.

Dark and rich with a creamy head. Spices not as prominent as you might expect. Well balanced.

On tap at Ridgewood (Raleigh).
Pours dark brown with light brown head. Slight spice aroma. Taste is not slight. Not at all. Can taste cinnamon, nutmeg, and CLOVE. Not quite as strong as biting down on a clove pulled from a holiday ham. No burning that strong clove flavor items usually have.
A very decent holiday beer.

22 oz bottle from Evergreen Discount into my Funkwerks glass. Black appearance with a light brown head and some lacing. The aroma and flavor is basically the spices mentioned in the description, very little stout characteristics. Light to medium body with a thin feel, hard to believe this is 9%. Kind of a disappointment, too many spices for me.
