Jack McAuliffe’s pioneering spirit paved the way for the American craft beer revolution. We’re rereleasing his original Pale Ale, with its distinct American hop character for the first time in 30 years in honor of Jack and his contributions to craft brewing. Cheers!

Bottle. Moderate grain and hay for the malt, light herbs, with faint apple in the background. Head is small, frothy, white with spotty and slippery lacing and is fully diminishing. Color is sparkling clear light amber. Flavor starts faintly sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes lightly acidic and lightly to moderately bitter. Palate is light to medium, a bit slick and has a lively carbonation. A nice tasting American Pale Ale. Simple but it does have a nice bite at the end.

12oz bottle in a shaker. Pours light golden with a white head. Aroma of soft, pale malts with hints of toast and light floral hops. Flavor about the same. Average texture. Was hoping for better.

Beer reminded me of Budweiser at the first smell. I don’t get much hops for taste all to some bitterness. it has good body and decent mouth feel. the be reminded me of a Budweiser with the more body and warm out field by much hops and um know if this is for craft beer was I probably never would have gone into the craft beer because it’s

From a 12 ounce bottle. Yellow-honey color and a bit of head because i poured it haphazardly. A bit of the hops on the nose, but may potentially contain other grains than barley. A bit bitter, but nothing special. Tastes like a spruced up PBR.

Moderate citrus aroma. Pale gold appearance with a white head that dissipated quickly. Nice citrus hop flavor. Not overpowering. Balanced with a bready grain flavor. Medium-light body with a moderately-high carbonation. Overall, its a nice, smooth moderately hopped pale ale. I enjoyed tasting this piece of history.

UPDATED: FEB 19, 2013 Read the interesting story behind this one so felt compelled to try it. 12oz bottle into pint glass, light gold color with white head. Aroma of sweet bready malt and earthy/citrus hops. Taste is much the same, maybe some fruity notes. Light body, medium carbonation, crisp, clean with some lingering hop bitterness. Is it the most amazing APA I’ve ever had? Nope. But from a historical perspective I see why this amazed people compared to the then boring pale lager, and how far APA’s have come. Overall a good experience, a nice easy drinking APA for warm days to come.
