From the 12. fl. oz. bottle The pour is pale yellow with a fizzy white head and a load of carbonation. Slightly cloudy. The aroma is grainy and bready with a slight hop note. The body is medium and astringent. The taste begins grainy with a solid bitter finish. By today’s standards this is a pretty basic pale ale. In 1981 it was ahead of the game and would have been an entirely unique experience.

Bottle from Bev4Less. Pours a mild orangey-yellow that isn’t quite golden. No foam head whatsoever, and few hints of high carbonation running up sides of glass. Aromas are faintly of sweet pale malts, with some early fruity qualities, but more apple juice than anything. There is even something semi-metallic, like copper or corn.. but again, very faint. Taste is clean, initially malty sweet, with just the faintest of bittering from the hops... Finish is clean, maybe too clean. But hey, this is a pale ale, one of the classics, and so, it gets high marks for unabashedly being what it is. Not sad that I have 5 more.

12 oz bottle from a six pack. Slightly hazy golden pour with a medium collapsing white head. Aroma is pretty muted, but I get dough, rubber, faint citrus. Taste is lightly hoppy with a dry finish; ends on a bready note. Light, crisp and refreshing. Highly carbonated, medium-bodied. Really basic, but tasty. It seems pretty humble now, but I can see how this would have turned heads back in the era of "all pale lagers, all the time" back in the ’70s.

Bottle; poured a dull gold color with a white head. Aroma of lemon, grass, bread and caramel. Flavor had a more bready edge to it; touch of lemon and sweetness, lingering mellow flavor. A bit fizzy in the mouthfeel. History aside, nothing special

we are becoming a jaded community indeed! This brew is dense with flavors of fresh pine, grapefruit and lemony citrus, honey and cereal malt. each flavor well presented, wafting and balanced nearly perfectly. the liquid quality is full enough in flavor and body again dense enough for mischief but refreshing with just a touch of copper in the malt. no hit of alcohol on my lately overwhelmed tastebuds. and an aroma of......a beer that you can tell you are really going to enjoy. the good stuff.

12 oz bottle into a SA perfect pint. Enjoy by July, 2013 A - Pours a golden amber body, quite clear with rising carbonation. Two fingers of soapy white foam with great lacing and retention. So, it looks good. S - Eh, less impressive. Floral and piney hops, a sweet corn like aroma that I would associate with light lagers, and some weak caramel malt. T - Floral and grassy hops, a distinct and quick burst of awkward bitterness, then sweet bready malts. Boring and not particularly great. Mouth feel is well carbonated and medium to thin bodied with a lasting bitterness. Pretty drinkable. O - An interesting beer to try for sure, it was very cool to see what craft beer of the past was like. Thankfully Sierra Nevada Pale Ale came along...

An ok beer in a pinch, but hardly anything to make note of for future purchases. Pours a light gold color with slightly off white head. Nose is a bit malty and sweet, while also with some grassy notes. Flavor is more noticeably hoppy, though fairly light overall.

12 oz bottle. Pours golden with short-lived, foamy white head and lively carbonation. Aroma is of grassy hops, citrus fruit and pale malt. Body is full and crisp. Taste is biscuit malt, grassy hops and some citrus fruit. Finish is long and dry. Nice, easy drinking, session brew.

Bottle. Nice beer. Real easy drinker. A touch lighter than I was expecting. Didn't blow me away, but didn't disappoint. Smooth sailing. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12 oz bottle purchased at Lukas in Kansas, Missouri. Best before Jul marked on the label. The pour is clear golden yellow, with not much of a white head. The aroma is dusty floral hops (as it warmed this showed more as straw), some toasted malt, and a bit of dirt and earth. The taste is the dry floral hops, which pick up an herbal element and accent the straw, along with the toasted malt of the nose, a bit bland, and the dirt and earth appear in the longish finish. The palate is medium bodied, low carbonation level, and the dirt finish. Just OK, though I very much appreciate this historical re-creation.
