Interesting concept beer. It’s a good way to show how far brewing has come over the years. Pours yellow with orange tint. Aroma is earthy/hay. Taste is slightly sweet fruit with a dry finish.

2.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
THOUGHTS: Funny how tame this seems by today’s standard, but I can see how crazy this would have been for Bud and Miller drinkers of the ’70s. Nice hop bite. Hope flavor was great but the aroma, overall, was a little weak. Thank God for all the dry hopping that goes on today.
TECHNICAL: Drank 2/24/2013. Bottle. Poured a light to medium. golden yellow with and average, ever so slightly off-white head that slowly but fully diminished and left fair lacing. The aroma contained light pale malt, grain and white bread; light citrus hops; light doughy yeast; and hints of honey. The initial flavor was lightly sweet and moderately bitter; while the finish was moderately sweet and bitter with and average duration. There was lemon, citrus light bread, cracker, pale malt, citrus rind, some pin and a little honey. The light to medium body was sort of creamy and then a bit dry with lightly fizzy carbonation and a metallic finish.

12 fl oz bottle from Potsdam, served cold in a tulip glass. Hazy deep golden with a thin white head. Quite fruity and sweet, peppery/vegetal/floral hops, bread crust and a little caramel. Medium body with lively carbonation. Quite floral and perfumed, a bit fruity, dusty/peppery, a little pine/resin; almost dry with some bitterness and a slightly oxidized, pine, fruity finish. Not very good.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Reviewed from notes.
The appearance had a light golden yellow colored body yielding a one finger white foamy head, streams of slowly moving carbonation are seen rising. Some spotty lacing is left here and there around the pint glass.
The smell had malts and butteriness up front, yet some slight distinct notes of hops faintly in the background.
The taste was sweet and smooth through the malts.
The palate sat about a medium with some light harshness on the tongue. It leaves a buttery aftertaste and a sticky finish. This is a fairly sessionable beer as the alcohol really isn’t tasted or felt whatsoever.
Overall, this was not bad, but nothing spectacular. This was decent for its style and just average to me.

12 oz bottle from Giant Eagle in Pittsburgh. Loved the spices and the clean crisp taste. Another great one from Sam Adams.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Cloudy Amber Color, Medium Frothy Head, Decent Lacing. Faint Pine Floral Hop Aroma. Malt, Light Sweetness and Pine Hops. While it is drinkable, it really does not stand out in today’s over saturated craft beer scene. Therefore this has to be rated from a different perspective - as a very first craft beer that has started it all when macros ruled it all. Not bad At All.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Small head, but it lasts. The liquid is dirty gold and mildly cloudy. Some ring lace after each sip.
Creamy malt aroma with a very balanced flowery hop smell.
This is an archetypical APA. Some soft pale malt up front. No sweetness (until just prior to the swallow), but it isn’t lip-smacking dry either. The finish is bitter and well-balanced. Richer body than most APAs, high carbonation.

2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Pours a cloudy golden yellow, with decent white head. Malty aroma, slightly sweet. Taste is fairly ’meh’, but smooth and drinkable. Not much palate at all. This beer isn’t very good in today’s craft beer rich environment. If this is a faithful representation of the original, we’ve come a long way since then!
