Weak weak weak beer. Almost bordering bad, there just isn’t anything here... Thin light weak body that washes away into nothing and leaves sponge water on the swallow. Completely average ale, it tastes like a mass lager that should be available anywhere. Not a fan of this one and honestly, I was surprised to see it coming off Sam Adams shelves...

Shared by turdferguson. Very nice translucent light pour with a foamy white head. Nose and flavor both bursting with a delicate fresh Noble hop character, bready malt, tad grassy, citrusy notes. Very tasty.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap at the Parish Publick House in Santa Cruz. Pours a clear light gold with a frothy white head that displays decent but not great retention. Aroma is full of grains, pale malt and spicy noble hops. Flavor is great as far as pilseners go. The malt base is largely unsweet with a touch of honey and cereal, but mostly straight up pils malt which doesn’t even try to get in the way of the hops. One of the hoppiest pilseners I’ve ever had, really vivid grassy and spicy character with a very faint unripe grapefruit/lemon citric note towards the end. It’s got an appreciable bitterness that unfortunately comes paired with some astringency on the tongue. With a more inspired aroma and a crisper, cleaner finish, this could be world class. But as it is, it’s just really good and a welcome addition to the mostly-mediocre Sam Adams line.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Sparkling clear apple juice colored body, topped by a thin quickly diminishing white head. The aroma is doughy with some citrus hints. Fairly nice biscuit like flavor complements with some orange marmalade. It falls apart a bit when the booziness of the alcohol hits. Fairly decent, though I do wish that the alcohol was bit less prominent.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
UPDATED: JAN 28, 2010 Location: 12 oz bottle from Norm’s, 1/25/10
Aroma: Light nose of cereal, spice, some other malts, a bit of apple, and some grass
Appearance: Pours a clear, bubbly, light golden, straw-like color with a large, foamy, bright white head that leaves some fizzy lace on the glass.
Flavor: Taste is light-medium sweetness with a touch of bitterness
Palate: Light-medium bodied beer with a smooth/crisp feel and sort of a chalky finish
Overall, this new spring seasonal from SA is a decent beer. I can see myself ordering this one on more then one occasion in bars where the SA Seasonal is the closest thing to a micro they have. It is certainly drinkable. On the other hand, it is not great, and I had higher hopes considering this "won" a taste contest to be the new seasonal.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle. Large very fizzy white head with poor retention, fair amount of lacing, transparent body, fast rising carbonation, and a yellow hue. The aroma is malty, herbal, honey, spicy, grassy, citrus hops. The flavor is malty, mildly spicy, citrus hops, and has a chalky finish. The mouthfeel is smooth and this is a light bodied beer. Overall, an easy to drink pils, but I guess I was expecting too much and ended up being disappointed with the overall taste of said beer and especially the chalky finish.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Poured yellow gold with a thin white head and plenty of lace. Grass and flower aroma. Hops are subdued, and have less spice than I would have expected from a winter pils. No idea why this came out in the winter, but it’ll make a good spring/summer back-porch beer.

UPDATED: FEB 9, 2010 Pours a bright gold with a medium head. Aromas of citrus hops and bread. Flavor is slightly bitter with a long, dry finish that makes you want more. This is better than I expected it to be. I do agree with other reviewers that this would be a better summer release though. Actually, I wish they would brew this year-round. A very tasty and thirst-quenching brew.
