3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours hazy yellow with white head, aroma is full of noble hop character that is grassy and slightly fruity. Taste is nice and hoppy up front with the grass and floral hops, with a spicy and dry finish. An excellent example of what a pilsener should be like!

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Good tasting pils, but light on aroma. Taste is light grain, with modest hop bitterness and aftertaste. Pale blond color and thin body. Thin head.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Clear golden body with a soapy white head that disipates quickly. Citrus and pine hops dominate the aroma, which invites you to take a sip. Medium mouthfeel with some bright carbonation towards the end. The taste starts with just a bit of malty sweetness. This is quickly pushed aside in favor of slightly suraged grapefruit and a punch of pine. Nice, smooth aftertaste. Good brew!

2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Very average looking (piss yellow with *BRIGHT* white head that dies quickly). Floral and hoppy aroma. Some citrus and citrus peel on the palate. No malt detected. Not as hoppy as I expected. Rather dry. There is no question this is a pilsner. The palate confirms it. Fair, but unimpressive.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Golden pourr with white head. big aroma of hops, and clean lager malt. Flavor is strong, dry, leafy hops, and pils malt. Finishes hoppy and malty. Hops dominate this one for a lager. Pretty impressive compared to their former crappy spring beer.

I was disappointed with this beer from Sam Adams. It is marketed as a seasonal beer. It showed up on the shelf in January and I see ratings from Aug. Color and pour just average. I detect a citrusy aspect, maybe from the hops. A bit thin. This beer could benefit from a bit more malt. Maybe it is just Sam’s inroads into the light flavored beer craze.

3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bright gold colored body with a fluffy white head. The nose was largely citrus and apples with a nice fresh dried hay background. There was also some potato hint, but it was subtle. It’s like smelling an orchard next to a hay field. The taste is a little bit of a let down after the nose. While it is pleasing and clean, it is still a little light, even for the style. I get some apple core dryness along with a little bit of wood and some orange peels. The only problem is that the flavors are muted. A nice effort, but it needs the character of the flavor profile kicked up a notch to be great. There is also a little bit of soap in the finish. Still, though, congrats to Sam Adams for at least trying a Czech style pils.

2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle... Poured clear, golden with a white head. I was not a fan of this one at all. Aroma of chemically enhanced hop flavors. Very floral and fruity. The beer was way too dry - it gave me one hell of a cotten mouth though. It’s like a Blue Moon with a lager yeast. A mess of perfumy hops, spices, and an unbalanced finish. Perhaps in transit to the west coast this beer lost its prime.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Pours a clear golden color with an impressive white lacing head. Light, malty aroma. Hint of some pine. Odd, I know. Nice balance in the taste. Also, a little hops as well. Pretty impressive beer coming from Sam Adams.

(Best by June 2010) Why hasn’t Sam made a beer like this for the last 10 years? First and for most since this beer is very fresh I am unable to detect any off flavors caused by pasteurization. The nose is hoppy/flowery. The palate is clean and crisp with a nice level of co2 that makes this beer refreshing. The finish is dry with a mild grassy bitterness. My only beef is that I would like a little more hops on the bittering end. This beer reminds me very much like Stoudts Pils.
