2009 Beer Lover’s Choice Contestant - Sample A. Similar to a traditional Czech Pilsner, our Samuel Adams Pils is brewed with a blend of 5 Noble Hop varieties from each of the world’s only remaining Noble Hop growing regions. The spicy, herbal and citrus hop character is well balanced by the Weyermann Bohemian Pilsner malt, adding honeyed malt character and full body without sweetness.

Bottle. pours a clear golden color with head that lasts throughout the beer. aroma of bread, and of the hops. taste: there is a good balance of flavor with the hops while being a pilsner. this would be a good beer that you can drink all night long.

Bottle as part of the Brewmasters Select Variety Pack. Pours a bright golden with a bubbly white head that leaves delicate lace. The aroma is fantastic: elderflower, ripe tropical fruit, light honey. Layers of nuanced hops bathe the palate, elderflower and papya and mango initially, followed by tart gooseberry and citrus pith bitterness. The malts play a perfect supporting role without being too sweet. This is the best pilsener I’ve had in a long time.

UPDATED: FEB 16, 2010 Pours a clear, golden yellow with a slew of carbonation bubbles racing toward a soft, frothy head. Nice lacing. The aroma has a lot of grassy citrus, spice, and some doughy malt. The flavor is a little bit sweet, but has a nice bitter finish, with some cereal and biscuit malt. Nice flavor. Well done.

Standard stuff. The aroma is bready, malty, spicy. The appearance is a gold color, crystal clear, white head. The flavor is bready, spicy. The finish is certainly bitter from hops, nobel hops specifically, and is somewhat spicy as well. Medium body. Decent for what it is.

Aroma of bread, lemon grass and light hops. Appearance is golden with splotchy head. Flavor matches the nose, with bready malt and hops the main focus. Palate was bubbly. Decent for the style.

From bottle to pilsener flute glass. Pours a clear golden color with sizeable white head, mostly diminishing. Good lacing sustains through finish. Aroma is refreshing with citrus, honey, pine hops. Well-balanced with great taste and a good malt presence in the dry finish. A very good offering by Sam Adams and would definitely buy again - Cheers!

Pours a nice, lively yellow with a two-finger thick head that quickly settles to 1 cetimeter thick. Aroma is a light, buttery hops with hints of rose, honey, and sweet biscuit. Flavor is up-front hops tapered off by a sweet, honey-like biscuit lightly splashed with freshly squeezed lemon. Lively on the tongue. A great pilsner; I’ll be drinking this again.

Pours hazy yellow with white head, aroma is full of noble hop character that is grassy and slightly fruity. Taste is nice and hoppy up front with the grass and floral hops, with a spicy and dry finish. An excellent example of what a pilsener should be like!

Good tasting pils, but light on aroma. Taste is light grain, with modest hop bitterness and aftertaste. Pale blond color and thin body. Thin head.
