2009 Beer Lover’s Choice Contestant - Sample A. Similar to a traditional Czech Pilsner, our Samuel Adams Pils is brewed with a blend of 5 Noble Hop varieties from each of the world’s only remaining Noble Hop growing regions. The spicy, herbal and citrus hop character is well balanced by the Weyermann Bohemian Pilsner malt, adding honeyed malt character and full body without sweetness.

Draft. A golden beer with a lazing off-white head. The aroma has notes of hops and malt - a very clean and delicate aroma. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, straw, and crip hops as well as a light touch of citrus, leading to a delicately bitter finish. Nice.

Draught at Bishop’a Arms SoFo, Stockholm. Clear straw colour, fairly rich head. Aroma of sweaty hay and citrus. Mid-dry with deep, chewy maltLovely foral, swety hay-like hops cover a solid but slim body of quality malt. Surprisingly good - this is really quenching and tasty. Better than most American examples of the style and hoppier than most Czech.

Tap at a small pub in Brookline, MA. Clear golden color, small white head, medium lacing. Aroma of malt. Flavor has intense licorice, more evident as it warms. Beer also goes slowly downhill as it warms, but overall not a bad pils.

Draught at Bishop’s Arms, Malmö
Blond color. The hop aroma seems to say Saaz, with crispy malt. Weak body, but it has a reasonable crispy malt flavor, correct bitterness, quite good hop quality. Pleasant, a good macro-attempt to make a real Pils.
