This ancient Finnish-style brew dates back to the 1500s as one of the oldest continuously brewed styles. Deep amber in color, this rugged brew’s distinctive aroma and flavor comes from aging on a bed of juniper berries. The herbal, woodsy, and ripe citrus character of the juniper enlivens a sturdy and smooth malt backbone for a fresh and flavorful brew. At Samuel Adams we love experimenting, This series of limited edition brews represents some of our favorite small batch creations.

Soft red pour, medium head. Funky aroma that I dont much care for but the taste is truly something you gotta try. Fizzy with fruity and sage notes. Full bodied but not too heavy.

22 oz bottle. Pours dark red with a long lasting, off-white head. Aroma is of bready, caramel malt, juniper and hints of grassy hops and dark fruit. Body is full, smooth and creamy. Taste is juniper, dark fruit, bready and caramel malt, spicy, grassy hops. Finish is long and spicy. Interesting, unusual brew.

Bottle. Copper beer with a light tan head. Malt and caramel aroma with light juniper. Caramel and light toffee flavor with juniper, light spice, and light salt. Medium bodied. Caramel and light toffee lingers with oak, spice, and light juniper.

From the bottle at Sam Adams Longshot Event. Pours a deep amber with a frothy head that falls away. The nose is earthy, slightly sweet, faint juniper. Some leafy notes and burnt sugar. On tasting, on the sweeter side and herbal though the juniper is quite faint. Some soft caramel notes as well. An interesting try, here, but misses the mark in my opinion. More of that herbal juniper would be welcomed.

Tried this one at Maloney’s last night. Honestly the name just stood out on their expansive draught list, so I figured I’d give it a try. A dark ale with great color and minimal bitterness. Hope I can find it bottled!

500ml bottle. Poured a translucent amber color with a mostly white medium sized head. Aroma was malts, caramel, notes of spice, touch of citrus. Flavor was mild citrus, plenty of spice notes. Interesting.

Amber-brown pour with a thin white head. The aroma is great. Lots of heavy dank fruity/piny character and a bit of molasses like sweetness. A touch of sweet fruit and some soft almost tobaccoish flavour on the back. Rich bit not cloying and the combination of malt and sweet juniper flavour really works well. Intense but tasty.

UPDATED: JUN 29, 2012 Poured from 22 oz. bottle. Clear, sparkling mahogany orange with small tan head and very good lacing. Aroma of juniper, earthy dried leaves, twigs, caramel, herbs and tea. Taste of sweetened tea, twigs, dark bread, herbs, floral hops and juniper. The tea and juniper flavors are a bit strong at first, but mellow out if you let the beer sit for a while. Eventually, you get a very well-rounded flavor. Medium/full body and medium+ carbonation. Pleasant mouthfeel. I can’t say that a beer that tastes of tea is my cup of tea--or glass of beer for that matter--but this is a well done beer for the style. Very nicely balanced mix of flavors, especially if you let the beer breathe for a bit. Even so, I just don’t want my beer to taste like tea or vice versa.

From a bottle poured a dark amber color with a fair amount of head. Spicy malty flavor with a quick finish.
