GranvilleTim (467), Granville, Illinois, USA Sep 4, 2009 Nice amber pour with an off-white head. Tastier then the other marzens I tried during the night. Malty, a little sweet almost fruity. Tasty. njmoons (52), New Jersey, USA Sep 4, 2009 I have had a lot of Sam Adams beers over the years, but this is the first one I would call bad.
I had a pint on tap at a local bar.
It looked good reddish brown with good long lasting staying power.
The aroma was as expected, some malt
The taste was thin, not much malt or hop flavor. Just plain bland, as I continued to drink I kept trying to find some distinctive flavors, none there. The finish was not a crisp as I would expect from a quality lager.
I will avoid in the future. WVHouseofBeer (341), Morgantown, West Virginia, USA Sep 3, 2009 Updated: Sep 4, 2009Poured a vibrant ruby red with a small off white head. Not really much of an aroma, just a little bit of caramel and toffee. Good flavors of toffee and some fruit (fig?). A good example of the style. kidmartinek (972), austin, Texas, USA Sep 1, 2009 A beautiful amber beer that changes to a broader shade of yellow from top to bottom in the glass. It begins with a 2inch white head bur quickly vanishes. Malty aroma. Flavor is leafy, malty, and mild. Draws down clear. Slightly nutty finish. Word. rjones1976 (2), Runnemede, New Jersey, USA does not count Sep 1, 2009 One of my first real talked up beers. When I first tried it I was highly impressed and told all my beer drinking friends about it. It truly brings back the fall for me every year. BrianHagmeier (257), Coralville, Iowa, USA Sep 1, 2009 Even with though its got quite a heavy mouth feel and sweetness its still very drinkable. I like it. cathcacr (586), Portland, Oregon, USA Sep 1, 2009 I’m fond of the Octoberfest style - wish it were available year-round in fact. This one is probably quite typical for the style (been a year since I had the last one), and has some kind of sweet fruitiness (the orange color biases me towards thinking orange). Hopper (277), San Antonio, Texas, USA Sep 1, 2009 A reddish-orange beer with a nice 2 finger head. The aroma was sweet, malty, & mildly fruity. The taste was malty & smooth & really surprised me how much it tastes like a fall day. Perfect to drink outside when it’s cool with the leaves falling.
