Commercial Description:
The first thing you notice when pouring a glass of this seasonal beer is the color. Samuel Adams® Octoberfest has a rich, deep golden amber hue which itself is reflective of the season. Samuel Adams® Octoberfest is a malt lover's dream, masterfully blending together four roasts of barley to create a delicious harmony of sweet flavors including caramel and toffee. The beer is kept from being overly sweet by the elegant bitterness imparted by the German Noble hops. Samuel Adams® Octoberfest provides a wonderful transition from the lighter beers of summer to the winter's heartier brews.

Pours the deepest orange into the glass, with definitive amber hues. The head, initially frothy, disperses into trace soapy lace. A doughy-malt nose ensues in the bouquet. The flavors are lightly done, with caramel and bready notes upfront, followed by a sweet earthy finish of hay, grains and dough. The mouthfeel is somewhat thin and watery, without being distractive. Nothing really assertive here, and lacking the complexity of a true marzen to indicate the style change of a cooler season.

Bottle at LCRBM08. Good caramelly aroma, hint of pepper. Clear amber colour, small head. The flavour is caramelly, pleasant. Like a weak American brown ale.

Can any beer seasonal brew possibly better add to the definition of ’’ho-hum’’ better than this drink? Actaully, ho-hum would have been alright, this was more on the apathetic side of indifference.

Bottle. Pours a semi caramel brown color with a very small, almost non-existent head. Nose is nutty, malty, caramel. Palate is light syrup, not overdone, and has a slight hop tingle. Flavor is mainly nutty, caramel, up front with some light hop notes to flow in and out.

Coppery colored, far too malty and with flavors of toffee and some grains. Not so hot for this one.

15 oz mug on tap at Outback Steak house. Pours a translucent amber color with a small beige head that soon dissipated. The aroma was very light and it was difficult to discern anything more than sweet malts. The flavor, unlike the aroma, was bold with sweet malts, berries, caramel, almonds, and yeasty bread. The mouthfeel was light and crisp. The finish was short and sweet. Overall: I’ve had this a dozen times before in a bottle and never was impressed or rated it--but this is the first time that I’ve sampled it on tap, and it was quite good.

On tap. Poured a darker amber with a minimal off-white head. Aroma was malty and sweet. More of the same in the flavor. It was OK... not a seasonal I’d seek out, but decent for lack of other choices.

Bottle@LCRBM08. Aroma is sweetish malty, grainy and very, very fruity. Clear, amber coloured with a small head. Taste is hoppy, bit grainy/grassy with some caramel sweetness and fruitiness. okay.
