unclemike (834), Ft. Riley, Kansas, USA Oct 7, 2008 Bottle.Deep orange-amber color, with huge off-white head, great lacing. Aroma is malt heavy as you would expect. Caramel, toffee, toasted grain, buttery nuts, and faint spicy hops character. Flavor much the same. Caramel and toffee up front. Toasted grain with some fruit through the middle, light spicy hop bitterness helps to balance out the flavor. Very clean, with full body and mouthfeel at the same time fishean (12), Palmdale, California, USA Oct 5, 2008 TAP ALWAYS TAP!
An dark amber color.
Airy head.
Aroma was Vinegar like with mild Caramel. The first quaff was similar to the boston lager with a hint of cider vinegar that was watered down. finish had no bite.
I need to try this beer again scottw86 (180), Maryland, USA Oct 5, 2008 Poured a light amber with a medium sized head that fades quickly. Taste has some carmel, but mostly spices. The best part of this is how drinkable it is. One of the best samuel adams. 1010 (206), Marysville, Ohio, USA Oct 5, 2008 Pours an amber color. Taste heavily of caramel and a little spice. Is a extremely drinkable beer but not the best Octoberfest.
12 oz. bottle piscator34 (1121), Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada Oct 5, 2008 Draft @ Chilis in Fargo. Light amber in colour with medium carbonation. Malt dominant aromas with loads of caramel. Flavor wise, the caramel malts take centre stage again. There’s a bit of vague spicy hop character, but virtually no toasted malt notes. LIght bitterness and medium bodied. Tastes more like a caramelly amber ale to me. Drinkable enough, but lacking in some essential oktoberfest qualities. larsga (2937), Oslo, Norway Oct 5, 2008 Medium yellowish beige head doesn’t last. Deep red body with light carbonation. Syrupy fruity malty aroma with apple and caramel notes, a bit unbalanced. Dry-sweet roasty perfumy licorice taste, slightly artificial, with fruity earthy notes. Dry wild berry and malts aftertaste with hoppy notes. It’s not bad. (0.355l bottle, Systembolaget, Charlottenberg.) Dastrn (115), Warsaw, Indiana, USA Oct 5, 2008 This was my favorite Octoberfest I can remember. What stood out to me was the fact that it was well-balanced, which is rare with Octoberfest beers. Most are too malty, too sweet, or too sour for me. This one hit the spot well! I’m not a Sam Adams guy, but this one is one I enjoy! mwelsh13 (483), Maryland, USA Oct 4, 2008 Draft poured medium reddish brown. Vegetal aroma. Not bad flavor and body. BBC not one of my favorites. But this one had a decent flavor and not a bad aftertaste like other BBC beers. SLightly syrupy in body.
