TheCaptain (526), Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 30, 2008 Had this on tap and in bottles. Pours a deep clear amber color. Medium off white head which settles to a small ring of foam. Smooth malt flavor with caramel and malt grains. Some hops bitter taste but a great finish. A Sam Adams 1st choice seasonal for me. rustbucket0873 (145), Krikville, New York, USA Jan 30, 2008 Pretty amber color with a medium offwhite disappearing head. Weak but malty aroma. Taste is caramelly and sweet with very light hoppy bitterness in the aftertaste. This is a pretty good octoberfest. MWS (10), Central, Illinois, USA Jan 23, 2008 I love this style, and this one doesn’t disappoint. Well balanced, despite the fact that it is more malt than hops. Smooth as butter and carbonated just right. I always look forward to this coming out in the fall. ejdischer (11), Cromwell, Connecticut, USA Jan 17, 2008 Another one of those beers that got me into good beer. However, no longer a favorite in the Ok/Marzen style. Toffee flavor comes through very good. Still a good offering. When it’s available, I usually have a few on hand. AmEricanbrew (1747), Louisiana, USA Jan 17, 2008 12 oz. bottle pours a clear amber hue with very little head. Has a slight malty, yeasty caramel smell. A mild caramel malt sweetness swishes across the palate. Medium bodied. Finishes with a pleasantly bitter, subtle hop bite. Smooth mouthfeel and easy drinking, not bad.
toddbates (95), USA Jan 9, 2008 another decent, not great offering from the sam adams label. reddish amber with a frothy off white head. malty with a load of flavors that change as the beer warms from the initial pour thekmoonlegend (93), Lynn, Massachusetts, USA Jan 5, 2008 Amber-red color. Off-white head that lingers for a pretty long time. Malty, spicy aroma. Very tasty, I noticed malts immediately but could also taste caramel and a slight bitterness. Finishes nice and smooth for all the flavor and the medium body. Good fall beer, I prefer the bottle over the draft, which taste a little flat. Svesse (2597), Hässelby, Sweden Jan 4, 2008 (Bottle) Reddish amber colour with frothy beige head. Malty nose with dried fruit, apricots, caramel, toffee, honey and a hint of chocolate. Slightly toasty. Malty taste with caramel, dried apricots and toffee. Slightly roasted, sweetish with a spicy, but not very bitter, finish. Leaning in the vienna direction but with the malt sweetness of the märzen. Not really rocking my world, but tasty and nice beer.
