vmilaxer29 (144), Virginia, USA Dec 17, 2007 A good octoberfest beer that is full of spices and has a great aroma. The hops really come out of this beer, like most Sam Adams beers. I really enjoy this during the four months they brew it. JLAudio (282), Crestwood, Illinois, USA Dec 7, 2007 I do enjoy drinking this beer on occasion. It offers a nice well rounded character, something that lacks in typical american octoberfests. It doesn’t have that creamy fullness that I look for, but as a result is easier to drink for the masses. Still, complex and balanced. Good. Drjohnrock (95), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Dec 2, 2007 Draft at TGI Friday. The occasion was my father-in-law’s birthday. This was supposed to be a review of Samuel Adams Winter Lager, as it was the only
beer on tap mentioned by the waiter that I cared to drink. As he brought the beer to me, even before I said anything he looked puzzled and said the Sam Adams Octoberfest that they had had for a while was supposed to have been replaced by the WInter Lager. I told him it looked like the Octoberfest, and he agreed. I had a sip and told him it was definitely the Octoberfest. He went to check with bartender, and returned saying the bartender swore it was the Winter Lager. I said that’s OK, I like Oktoberfest beers.
Anyway, the beer has a dark orange color, sweet grainy aroma, minimal head with no lacing, and a medium toasted malt flavor. A few days later I bought a bottle of the Winter Lager to make sure my taste buds weren’t playing tricks on me. They weren’t.
Having deemed this an acceptable marzen, the only thing left for me to do is contact the manager at TGIF and tell him a bartender needs to be fired and a waiter promoted... JamesMulvenon (21), USA Nov 27, 2007 Deep orange copper color with full head. Malty taste smooth from beginning to end, though no strong malt or hops taste worth comment. An excellent session beer, especially in the fall. grandet (477), Scranton, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 25, 2007 Copying from my tasting notes. Bottle. NIce copper pour with a nice sweet aroma. Taste is on the low side for a marzen, but still pretty good. thechandler (268), Morgantown, West Virginia, USA Nov 25, 2007 Pours a warm copper, with a small but sturdy cream head. Aroma is sweetly hoppy. Taste isn’t overpowering from any dimension, but slightly sweet, slightly malty, and slightly hoppy. Goes down slightly bitter from the hoppy finish. Not bad, but nothing too special. nd1748 (40), dundalk, Maryland, USA Nov 22, 2007 ok average oktoberfest nothing great but not bad pours a copper gold color with little head nice aftertaste. ok fall beer rugbydude05 (280), Kew Gardens, New York, USA Nov 17, 2007 Outstanding fresh aroma and pours a deep golden color. I thought the palate was acceptable and the flavor was not overpowering and not too sweet, but at the same time not bitter. A good choice, especially in the fall season
