Lubiere (4464), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Oct 4, 2009 A dark amber beer with a thick light moka head. A rather mineral aroma, with light notes of herbs and butterscotch. In mouth, a rather nutty malt with too much butterscotch, a bit ouily, some signs of oxidation. Overall, boring. On tap at Sam Adams Brewhouse Newark Airport, Sept. 22 2009. illidurit (851), Santa Cruz, California, USA Oct 3, 2009 Orangish amber color, clear, with a small tan cap of head. Aroma is toasted breads and not much else. Maybe a little caramel sweetness. Pretty muted. Flavor is, again, toasted bread, with vague floral hop accents and caramel. Finishes watery, as per usual with Sam Adams. Mouthfeel is nicely carbonated but body is thin compared to German versions. Inoffensive, decent. f351c4v (404), Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 2, 2009 This takes me back to my jr. drinking days... Pours a clear amber color with a quickly disappearing white head. Aroma of sweet malts, grains, not much else. Medium malty budy, a bit of sweet caramel and nuttiness. Not a fan of the style; this would be a sweet gateway beer for some. YtownTJ (3), USA does not count Oct 2, 2009 Absolutely love this beer. As far as large american breweries go. Sam Adams is in a league of their own. This is my favorite of their products. Just tastes like fall! OleR (2008), Oslo, Norway Oct 2, 2009 355 ml bottle from Systembolaget Charlottenberg. Deep gold to copper colored body. Brief, lightly tanned head. Nutty, almost cheesy malt aroma. Notes of red berries. Taste is dryish malty, with a certain sourness and a note of caramel and unripe berries. Well-bodied and slick in the mouth. Bitter-sweet endig. Not true to the type, yet a beer with high drinkability. monkeychugg55 (214), Joliet, Illinois, USA Sep 30, 2009 Pours dark amber with a small white head. Aroma is a lot of cereal and caramel, not much else. Like the Boston lager, but without the hops. Not terrible, but not a great marzen. Pawola22 (676), Kansas City, Missouri, USA Sep 30, 2009 On tap at the Flying Saucer in KC. Pours a clear, amber-gold body with a thin, creamy, tan head that leaves a medium amount of creamy lacing. Aroma is mostly caramels and malts with a buttery, thin fruit, and very hard to find roast. Flavor is caramels up front with some toffee, a light crystal, small amount of bitterness, and a hint of roast. Finishes slightly dry after a creamy, medium body. Moderately bittered, hint of roast, caramel, and some brown sugary sweetness in the aftertaste that lasts for a medium duration. Overall, not really what I was expecting in an Oktoberfest, but decent. More of a hop bitterness than toasty, roasty toffee. Not bad, but rather unexciting. MmmcKay (269), Brentwood, Tennessee, USA Sep 29, 2009 Deep amber in color. Nose of mollasis and caramel. Bitter crisp malt. Pretty creamy and thick for an Octoberfest. Very Sam Adams.
