COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The first thing you notice when pouring a glass of this seasonal beer is the color. Samuel Adams® Octoberfest has a rich, deep golden amber hue which itself is reflective of the season. Samuel Adams® Octoberfest is a malt lover’s dream, masterfully blending together four roasts of barley to create a delicious harmony of sweet flavors including caramel and toffee. The beer is kept from being overly sweet by the elegant bitterness imparted by the German Noble hops. Samuel Adams® Octoberfest provides a wonderful transition from the lighter beers of summer to the winter’s heartier brews.

Always seems like a good idea until I taste it.

Dark brown - a bit dark for the style. I believe some time the journey is more important than the destination. To many beers add grains to try and create a product rather than work on the technique. That said - this is not an ocboberfest. It is a dark amber at best. Needs the toasty munich malt flavor rather than the caramel malt flavors.

Nice looking beer but with almost no foam at all. The aroma was very difficult to detect, also. Perhaps a bit of pumpkin in there but really not much of anything. The flavor was pleasant. Sweet and malty with a hint of apples underneath it all. No pumpkin at all which was a bit surprising for an American Octoberfest. Seems like they all feature pumpkin. Overall, it was a nice beer but disappointing. An octoberfest should feature fall flavors but this one did not.

bottle. Pours a nice, rich amber hue with plentiful white head. The aroma is of some sweet malts and a bit of generic bitter beer smell. There’s barely noticeable bittering hops and a strange taste like smoke from burning vegetation over a thinly sweet body. The finish does not linger long and ends mostly on a smoky note. This is not my favorite brew, but it is definitely drinkable.

found this one cleaning out my notebook, thought i had already rated it. typical looking orange colored beer, small sand colored head. nose of malty origin. slight biscuit notes, with a toffe esque rue of flavors. good and probably better then i thought it was gonna be.

Bottle. Clear amber colour with a longlasting off-white head. Malty bready aroma. Sweet malty fruity caramel flavor with some bitterness. Sweet malty finish with a bitter aftertaste.

UPDATED: NOV 11, 2006 On draft in a $4, 24 oz mug at smokey bones in robinson twp. Has a hue of a darker pale ale rather than a dark beer. Although it was not too bitter, there was a sense of some hops. Come off initially as just a tad watery. No lasting finish. No memorable aroma.

Was looking forward to this one, given that it’s considered a "good beer" in town (meaning we only generally have crap on tap), so I was looking forward to some flavor. and i was disappointed. oh well. tasted like they put a little hint of carmel and pumpkin in it but that;s about all i got.

Once it went into the fridge, it was just okay. At room temperature, it had a nice mix of flavors and aroma, but cooling it killed all of that.
