This beer caught me off guard a bit, i was not expecting to much. After reading the bottle i though how can they take all the flavors in one beer but the did and it was goood.

Nice spicy aroma...lots of scents are captured. This is one of the better selections in the winter pack. But you really would only want the 2 you get in the pack!!!

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Cherry-color and thin, off-white head. Aroma of caramel, citrus, and spice. Malty and tangy fruit flavor with hints of chocolate and cinnamon. Reminds me of a spiced English Pale Ale. The spices are quite well-integrated. Not a bad offering from Samuel Adams.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Looks like a medium-quality herb beer. Dark amber color, with a fairly quickly diminishing head. Smells mildly like caramel, but it very malty. MAYBE a hint of chocolate, but it's very faint.

UPDATED: DEC 29, 2004 beautiful deep ruby amber color. roasty malt aroma, and a hint of spices--definitely cinnamon, with some gingersnap. first you get a slight spicy tang on your tongue. feels heavy, coats your mouth with a light toasty spice, and finishes a little dry and bitter--thins out in the finish. definitely a beer worth trying!

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Deep ruby/copper color with a moderate head and lacing. Malty spicy yeasty aroma with just a hint of sourness. Fairly rich with a predominantly chocolate malt flavor with some caramel and I can definitely taste the ginger. The finish lingered and turned dryish.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Excellent aroma of cinnamon and cherries. Dark ruby appearance. Flavor is spicy with a hint of cinnamon, dark cherries, and some chocolate. I still enjoy Sam Adams beer and I feel no differently with this one. This is a nice winter beer.

Again I say--if you want a mulled beer--buy a Gluekriek. Even Goudenband has more spicy character than the Old Fezziwig.
If you HAVE to try this--don't get it in a variety pack that's been sitting around Costco for 6 months--buy it as fresh as you can.
The spicy nutmeg flavor is better in the fresh version--I've had the Costco version and it's stale and flat compared to fresh.
Bright, light fruit tones, with a thin white head and spicy aroma.
Hints of hop and cirander as well as cinnamon and nutmeg.
Not a bad ale, but I prefer the Belgians--you get the gravity, the fruit and the spice with them. Fezziwig lacks character by comparison.
