3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Smells like very sweet malts, very mild hops. Poured a deep garnet color, plenty of carbonation, tiny head, decent lace. Flavor is fruit, followed by toffee, the nuttiness. Palate is pretty good for this flavor. Tastes something like an Octoberfest, or even a Bock. Not too impressive, but not offensive, either.

Deep reddish brown color with a tan head. Nice roasty caramel and dark fruit aroma. Sweet malt, roasted chocolate, caramel, alcohol and dark fruit flavors. Nice lightly tingly feel.

Glowing dark ruby color with a thick tan head. The aroma was slightly burnt...some caramel, cherries, and alcohol. The flavor was better...caramel, chocolate, dark fruit, sugar. Crisp carbonation.

Dark amber, slight ruby, initially large head that shrinks quickly, leaving a tiny lacing - aroma of cinnamon and caramel - flavor has some of the same, as well as a very cookie/toasty kind of flavor - some chocolate - toasty finish with lingering malts - a pleasant surprise.

Very handsome, crystal clear, copper ale. Looks like a shiny, new penny. Creamy, off-white head. Great retention with creamy lacework.
Malty and caramely nose with a hint of vanilla.
Very rich, malty flavor. I know it's spiced, but I don't taste it. The malt must override the spice. Decently balanced. This chunk of buttery caramel should be wrapped in wax paper and handed out to children on Halloween, not poured into a glass. Medium-bodied with an oily mouthfeel and lively carbonation. The finish is very dry and astringent. An inexpensive fix for we maltheads! Trick or Treat?

3.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Holiday sampler. No head to speak of. Very dark brown color. I could smell the caramel. An interesting "winter" beer. Spices/caramel and even some citrus... all go together pretty well. Personally I like this darker winter beer. More appealing than the sam adams winter lager which I found rather decent. Will buy again.

Fruity spice sent and ruby red color with a medium tan head. Spice and hop flavor that is suprisingly good. I think this is one of Sam Adam's best beers.

I liked this better than the winter lager. Nice, dark malt flavors, mild spiciness (not overdone), and decent citric/spicy/fruity hop presence. A very good beer for the winter months.

2003 Bottle. Poured a dark ruby color with barely any head. The nose was of chocolate and the taste was of cinnamon, chocolate and malt. Much better then I remember from years ago, however I think my taste buds have matured. A nice addition to the Sam Adams holiday 12 pack. Definitely not a session beer, but delicious none the less.
