3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from the winter 12 pack
Pours a crystal clear dark brown color with brilliant ruby highlights at the edges and a smallish off white head that dissipates quickly. Aromas of toffee and brown sugar with a heavy handed attempt at spicing. Cherry, a hint of wet dog, and earthy herbal make up the rest of the nose. The flavor is dark fruity caramelized sugars with a hint of mineral water and a whole of spices. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a sweet slick mouthfeel. Worlds better than the White Christmas I just finished, but still an over spiced beer for my tastes.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
From a bottle. Pours ruby brown with a thick head. Aromas are brown sugar and cinnamon. Flavors are brown sugar, biscuit and raisin with a hint of molasses and ginger. Finishes with a whisper of orange peel. Very smooth mouthfeel. This was one of the first Christmas ales I remember trying back in the day. Though there are many Christmas beers to choose from these days, this one still holds up pretty well.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap @ Chuckís 85th. Pours dark cola brown with thin sticky cream colored head. Aroma is lightly toasted malt and a bit of gingerbread. Taste is similar: light brown caramel malt body with noticable but balanced aromas of clove, ginger, and toffee. Light and pleasant winter warmer, really low abv for the style.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 16/20
I drank this last year and wasnít a fan, but in the intervening 12 months Iíve consumed quite a bit of different beers, and my tastes have changed, so I was excited to try this again. Sure enough, I enjoyed it much more -- sure, thereís still the bitterness that turned me off last year, but it isnít overpowering, and the tastes of roasted caramel and cinnamon (stronger than any chocolate I can discern) makes it a fairly complex and tasty selection. Also, it has good lacing and is creamy in texture, although there is a bit of a film on the tongue afterwards. Still, a good beer. Glad I didnít rate it last year.
