COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Spicy and bold, a big Christmas cookie of a beer. Samuel Adams Old Fezziwig Ale is bursting with spices of the season. With a remarkably full body and flavor it helps those long winter nights pass more quickly. The rich taste hits the palate with a depth of malt character ranging from sweet toffee and caramel notes to dark, roasty chocolate notes. Then the spices come in full force. Cinnamon, ginger and orange peel dance on the tongue bringing with them the celebratory spirit of the season.

12 oz. Pours a medium amber with a thin off-white ring. Aroma of caramel, toffee, burnt sugar, and roasted malts. Burnt chocolate, caramel, and cinnamon dominate taste. Followed by hints of roasted malts, nutmeg, and ginger. Light bodied and a but watered down. Good carbonation. Sticky bitter finish. Not bad for a Sam Adams but definitely not the best I have had.

Pours a clear deep, dark amber with a light and frothy off-white head, medium lacing. Aroma is of roasted malt and caramel. A blend of medium sweetness and light bitterness, cinnamon and ginger certainly add a certain spice to the taste. Medium bodied with average carbonation, subtle bitter finish. Overall, an intriguing holiday ale to add a bit of spice to the cold and unforgiving winter days; not my cup of tea but acceptable.

The malt and spice characteristics are really balanced well with the red qualities. Unlike some holiday brews, it definitely wouldn’t get tiresome after a 6 pack.

There was actually some spice to this. Roasted malts with spices. Dark amber color with foamy head. Very malty with nutmeg and pepper. Nice lingering tastes. Palate was average and it was very filling. Moderate carbonation and alcohol was well hidden.

Bottle, courtesy Brigadier, thanks! Pour is cola/amber with a tan head. Little retention/lace. Aroma is ginger, cinnamon, caramel, chocolate. Taste is quite sweet, ginger, nutmeg, toffee, light citrus. Palate is soft, a bit sticky, sweet finish. Just a bit too sweet.

12oz bottle poured into Samuel Adams Perfect Pint Glass. Pours a lighter, root beer colored brown with a reddish hue and decent white head that disappates into a thin layer of bubbles that leave some slight lacing. Aroma isn’t too strong, but I am getting roasted malts, caramel, cinnamon, orange, ginger, and slight hint of chocolate. Taste is much bigger than the aroma lead on. Big caramel and malts up front with the cinnamon, orange, and toffee coming through very well as it warms. Even a bit of spice burn on the throat and tongue in the finish. None of the flavors overwhelm each other or the taste as a whole. Cinnamon and malts linger for a bit in the finish. Full body, but not heavy at all. Simi-thick texture that gets somewhat creamy as it warms. Pretty active carbonation that usually I don’t care for, but works with this particular style. Overall this is quite the easy drinker, or would even work well as an after dinner dessert sipper, if one was so inclined. I really wish the Boston Beer Company would put this out as it’s own 4, 6, or even 12 pack instead of making it exclusive to the Winter Classics 12-pack.

12 oz bottle, pours opaque, dark mahogany, small white head that dissipates quickly. No lacing. Aroma is malty, dark fruits, some Christmasy spice. Flavor is much the same. Body is fairly thin, mild carbonation, fairly sweet. Not a bad holiday offering from Sam Adams.

12oz bottle in winter classics variety pack. Poured into lager glass, Brown-ruby color with small off-white head. Aroma of sweet malt, cinnamon, nutmeg and other seasonal spices. Taste is a nice balance of caramel and seasonal spices. Medium body and carbonation. Nice Christmas offering.

Cola colored with quickly dissipating head. Aroma is strong ginger. Taste adds some caramel notes but ginger carries the beer. Nice silky palate. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours an orange color with a brownish tint. Aroma of spices and cinnamon. Taste is crisp with notes of nutmeg and slight sweetness. Hints of toffee and minor chocolate. Overall a good beer for the style, very complex in taste.
