COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Spicy and bold, a big Christmas cookie of a beer. Samuel Adams Old Fezziwig Ale is bursting with spices of the season. With a remarkably full body and flavor it helps those long winter nights pass more quickly. The rich taste hits the palate with a depth of malt character ranging from sweet toffee and caramel notes to dark, roasty chocolate notes. Then the spices come in full force. Cinnamon, ginger and orange peel dance on the tongue bringing with them the celebratory spirit of the season.

Bottle. Amber brown with spongy beige large head, spicy aroma (cinnamon-nutmeg), slightly bitter roasted malt taste. fizzy, longish finish with bitter aftertaste. Better than average winter beer.

Appearance was reddish brown with diminishing creamy tan 1 finger head, no lacing. Aromas are spices, roasted caramel malts and deep fruits. Taste are cherry, ginger, cinnamon, date, slight roasted toffee, pale, amber malts. Palate was soft creamy CO2 with light-medium body, average length soft spicey amber-like sweet finish. A easy smooth brew, can knock down a few. Better as it warms up.

Pours dark and tastes chocolate and malt. One is good , two would be too many. ---Rated via Beer Buddy

Dark brown pour with a thick 2 finger tan head. Malty goodness with a sweet caramel back drop. Hints of various holiday spices detected in this guy. Very smooth and tasty. Great beer, I look forward to seeing 6 or 12 packs of this guy.

From bottle. Dark copper color. Aroma is malt and orange peel. Taste is lightly spiced malt, tart orange peel, and a touch of bitter. Smooth sweet finish, with a light spice aftertaste.

Nice dark ale with good head. Sweet malt/spice aroma. Tastes sweet, medium body, medium carbonation. I’d buy a six pack if I saw it (from the Sam Adams Holiday Classics).

Dark amber color with a little bit of a white head. Has some small hints of spice aroma. I like that the spices don’t overpower, like many other ales that use cinnamon and ginger. Has a medium body feel. Decent overall.

Surprised I hadn’t rated this - I’ve had it before - it is now just obvious that it has been over a decade since I tried it. Poured a dark brown, decent head. Darker than my memory. Aroma was chocolate and toffee, bit of a nutmeg note. Flavor was surprisingly chocolatey, notes of toffee, and then some slight seasonal spicing on the finish that was well balanced with the rest of the beer. Not even remotely as spicy as I remembered, and also much fuller in malt flavor than I remember. Either this was tweaked, or my memory sucks, or my palate has changed, or all of these combined. Not bad.

A good beer, overflowing with cinnamon. Pours a nice carbonated purple with a grey head. Smells of cinnamon and citrus. Taste is all cinnamon, to the point of being a bit overwhelming, like if you simply sniff the powder. Had in the bottle. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Poured with little head to speak of, dark mahogany tone with light carbonation. Not much smell to speak of, however the smell that is there is yeast with some spices and a orange overtone. Threading is there but not particularly long lasting, seems to be of a thinner viscosity than would be expected of a "winter style" beer. Taste is first all spices (orange, ginger, cinammon and woody notes), with a doughy yeast to top it off, by the end a sweet almost sugary taste ends it out. Overall, I would say it attempts to do to much and becomes overly complicated and is much thinner in the palate than you would expect. As most people said, its not a good beer but it is enjoyable if only as a holiday gimmick. Though I doubt I will go out of my way to drink this beer again.
