COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Spicy and bold, a big Christmas cookie of a beer. Samuel Adams Old Fezziwig Ale is bursting with spices of the season. With a remarkably full body and flavor it helps those long winter nights pass more quickly. The rich taste hits the palate with a depth of malt character ranging from sweet toffee and caramel notes to dark, roasty chocolate notes. Then the spices come in full force. Cinnamon, ginger and orange peel dance on the tongue bringing with them the celebratory spirit of the season.

Bottle pours a deep red brown with a disappearing tan head. Aroma of toasted chocolate malt with hits o caramel an the faint aroma of a ginger snap. Taste of smooth chocolate malt that leads into a faint orange then ginger snap spice that does not linger long. Light body with low carbonation. Overall very smooth mostly balanced beer with a touch of seasonal spirit that does not over do it. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

<REVIEW FROM PREVIOUS NOTES> I bought this in the Sam Adams 12pk Winter Collection variety pack for about $13 at Woodman’s in Janesville, WI in mid Fall 2010. Pours a dark brown with decent long lasting head. Strong scent of sweet malts and cocoa. Heavy taste that is smooth and slightly creamy. A touch of spice thrown in for the mix. A very nice winter. A must try!

Brown pour with tan head. Aroma is light sour malt and some toastiness. Flavor is sweet caramel malt and a strong dose of perfumy spiciness. Medium bodied and fizzy. Not one of my favorites but ok

Not much on the smell. Taste is also very faint. Some slight toffee flavors. And some caramel creaminess. Any flavor is gone quickly though.

Lager glass. Nice looking beer with a creamy looking head. Malty tasting, bits of spices and a hint of some kind of fruit. Pretty good beer.

Dark reddish brown color with a good amount of head. Spicy Christmas-like aroma. Not as much spice flavor as expected but it still has a nice malty finish. Lighter beer than I’d want but quite drinkable.

Bottle. A- Cinnamon, spices, roasty. A- Dark amber color, dark liquid, minimal head. T- Cinnamon, ginger, cloves, spices. P- Medium body, average texture, medium carbonation, spiced finish. O- Didn’t detect any of the toffee, caramel or chocolate notes, but there was an abundance of spices, especially cinnamon. This beer is a nice winter staple, and a fairly complex one at that.
