Somewhat light with hints of spice and caramel. A very smooth and accessible ale.

A beer whose complexity is difficult to appreciate when one is drinking it for the first time. Upon smelling the beverage, you can detect faint hints of the multiple notes (e.g. ginger, chocolate, roasted caramel). It is a deep brown color that is almost reddish in tone. The head is decent. Sadly, the taste is perhaps a little too complex for my tastes and seems to be a mixed bag if finished too quickly. With a dry aftertaste that seems almost a trademark of Sam Adams brews, it can become unpleasant. Old Fezziwig isn"t one of my favorites, but it is far above most beers produced by mainstream breweries. Furthermore, I do respect the effort the Boston Beer Company put into making it.

I really, really enjoyed this beer. Rich hints, of cinnamon and nutmeg. Has a nice "holiday" bite on the palate, but very smooth going down. I would very much like to find this on tap during the holiday season!

Came in a mix pack for the holidays. You know it’s a Sam Adams by the flavor, it is very strong, but it is good. The chocolate is very noticable in it, very good.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pleasantly surprised by very dark red-brown color, darker than most spice beers. Almost like a porter. Good lacing. Orange, cinnamon, and maybe cloves in the nose. Predominantly cinnamon and ginger flavors, other spice undertones. Very good festive beer, but probably wouldn’t drink it year round.

I fear I must depart from the average rating here. To me, this beer screams christmas and the holidays. Tried my first in a variety pack several years ago and swoop down on them when I find any at the store. A very festive spiced beer with just the flavor to make any holiday season memorable.

This is the prize of the sampler. Nutmeg, cinamon, fig aroma. It took a few sampler packs before I truly sought this out.
