Spicy and bold, a big Christmas cookie of a beer. Samuel Adams Old Fezziwig Ale is bursting with spices of the season. With a remarkably full body and flavor it helps those long winter nights pass more quickly. The rich taste hits the palate with a depth of malt character ranging from sweet toffee and caramel notes to dark, roasty chocolate notes. Then the spices come in full force. Cinnamon, ginger and orange peel dance on the tongue bringing with them the celebratory spirit of the season.

Pours clear reddish brown, without much lasting head. I smelled the holiday spices and a roasty caramel character. Tasted the caramel too, with a good bit maltiness. Overall enjoyed the beer.

Got this beer in a combo pack of sam adams beers. The best one I have had so far.

Not too strong of an aroma, nice dark color. I have had much better spiced ales...it is a nice winter warmer, but I would recommend looking deeper for a nice micro brewed spiced ale.

Pours a deep deep red, with a thin head that fades quick. Smell is mild and fruity malt. Taste is also fruity with a hint of dark chocolate. Mouth feel islight and almost crisp. A pretty good brew.

Lovely aroma of orange, ginger and sweet malt. Nice reddish brown color and a full, lasting head. Sweet malt flavor balanced well by the spices. Perhaps a bit of anise in there with some cinnamon. Full body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. This is a lovely winter ale which I would happily drink all year if only it were available in six packs. Highly recommended.

From the winter sampler. Comes out of the bottle a dark ruby color with an off white head that’s nice and thick but that dissipates quickly. Aroma is an array of Christmas spices, and the taste is all lightly roasted coffee and light ginger. Palate is thin with lots of carbonation. Good beer.

Appearance is quite dark. Darker than their boston lager but not quite as dark as, say, a stout or a porter. Smells of roasted malt. I also want to say there’s a a whiff of toffee? Body is smoothe. Taste has a mild bitterness. Taste is mostly indistinct spices and hops.

How disapponting that I must buy an entire mixed case just to get 4 bottles of this! Pours richly dark, like a porter, with a medium head and one of the most satisfyingly complex aromas I’ve ever smelled. The complexity carries over to the flavor, almost too much for my relatively uncultured taste buds to differentiate. Medium-light mouthfeel. Best holiday beer I’ve had so far.

Deep amber color. Nice earthy spice aroma. Plesantly full body. Aftertaste is almost sour.
