COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Spicy and bold, a big Christmas cookie of a beer. Samuel Adams Old Fezziwig Ale is bursting with spices of the season. With a remarkably full body and flavor it helps those long winter nights pass more quickly. The rich taste hits the palate with a depth of malt character ranging from sweet toffee and caramel notes to dark, roasty chocolate notes. Then the spices come in full force. Cinnamon, ginger and orange peel dance on the tongue bringing with them the celebratory spirit of the season.

Bottle. Pours a clear copper with a short-lived tan head. Aromas of cinnamon, ginger, and copper. Taste is biscuity and metallic with some subtle spice and ginger kick. Overall too sweet and too acidic on the finish. Meh. Itís Sam Adams so donít expect too much.

I really wish this one was available year round, as it is Sammyís best offering, edging out the Winter Lager. I really had trouble placing the aroma, it was kind of like toasted wheat bread with a hint of orange. The color was rich and so was the taste. Refreshingly complex.

12 oz bottle. Dark brown beer with a thick creamy off-white head. Sweet nutty malts, light cocoa and a fairly sweet cherry/blackberry fruitiness. Malty with sweet caramel and brown bread notes. Flavour is also sweet and chewy, brown malt and a nice bready sweetness. Cherry esters, nutty sweet. I donít get any cinnamon or spice, but this is still a pleasant porter. A bit of chocolate as it warms. Slightly too sweet, but still, not a bad brew.

Slightly spicy, but has a dominant pine needle aroma and taste. Too thin in the mouth.

12 oz bottle. It pours a reddish brown with a foamy off white head. It smells like caramel. The flavor is pretty tame. It has some caramel malt, some roastiness, and some spices, but it also has a certain wateriness and some metallic flavor. It certainly isnít as good as their winter lager, but that isnít saying too much. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 12-09-2010 22:59:17

Bottle. Milld ginger, cinnamon and orange aroma. Dark copper color with small head. Chocolate malt and cinnamon/orange flavor. Very nice and reliable seasonal.

A very unique beer. I've only ever seen this one in the Christmas/Winter selection sampler. Deep brown in color, with odors of strong brown sugar, nutmeg, and cinnamon. Finishes smooth, with chocolate, spicy, nutmeg, and more malt and nutmeg flavors. A nice holiday beer.

Clear brown color, big light brown head. Sweet, malty, spicy scent. Sweet, spicy, malty, bread taste. Grain and slightly roasted aftertaste. Moussy mouthfeel, medium dryish bitterness.

UPDATED: DEC 19, 2011 Moderate molasses and orange notes with ginger and cinnamon on the nose. Some moderate maltiness. Clear reddish brown color with a tan head. Flavor is a strong fruit and spice burst at first followed by a moderately bitter finish with lots of malt character. Not watery at all for a 5.9%, rather explosive actually.

Bottled. Clear, medium copper pour with a well-retained beige head. Christmas-like spices and caramel in the aroma, but it was kinda metallic and artificial. Caramel and spicy malt were all over the flavor, too, along with some chocolate... again with an odd character that was not-so-appealing. Somewhat metallic and sour notes around the edges and at the finish. Decent holiday ale, I suppose, but didnít much do it for me.
