Spicy and bold, a big Christmas cookie of a beer. Samuel Adams Old Fezziwig Ale is bursting with spices of the season. With a remarkably full body and flavor it helps those long winter nights pass more quickly. The rich taste hits the palate with a depth of malt character ranging from sweet toffee and caramel notes to dark, roasty chocolate notes. Then the spices come in full force. Cinnamon, ginger and orange peel dance on the tongue bringing with them the celebratory spirit of the season.

Appearance: Pours with a thick feel. Very little carbonation. A brown amber color, maybe dark copper. Small (less than) a one finger head. Smell: The aroma is subtle but thick and musky in character. Full of spices and sweet malt aroma. Cinnamon, cloves, ginger and orange. Taste: Instantly I am smacked with a sweet malt taste. It is quite gentle on the palate. Through the middle the taste grows in depth including nice cranberry and caramel notes along with cinnamon and other spices. There is a subtle hint of something dark maybe roasted chocolate buried deep in the flavor. Finally, there is just a tad bit of alcohol showing through that is nice and warming. This is a very ínice-and-easyí beer. It is so inoffensive that I believe it would agree with most peopleís palate. It has a very mildly hopped dry aftertaste. Mouthfeel: Medium mouthfeel is a bit syrupy and nicely carbonated, making it crisp and refreshing. Drinkability: This is an incredibly drinkable beer. It has just enough flavor to be interesting a not too much extreme characteristics that it is still totally agreeable. It is a good holiday beer, suitable for either dinner or a party beer. I could easy put down a number of these (with much pleasure). Hope this is helpful. Cheers!

Pours clear deep amber with a short, short-lived light tan head, no lacing. (3/5) Nose is bready malt, holiday spices, some roasty notes. (6/10) Taste is moderate sweet, moderate bitter. (6/10) Medium body, moderate to low sustained carbonation, and an off-dry bitter finish. (3/5) Starts off a bit on the sweet side, but the malt kind of dies halfway through and leavesÖ well... not a lot backing it up. Spices are reasonably restrained, though, and itís fairly drinkable. Serviceable but nothing too special. (12/20)

12 ounce bottle. Copper brown color topped by a thick creamy beige head. Rich malty nose redolent of toffee and cinnamon. Smooth toasted malt flavor upfront. Spices come in but are not overpowering. Hints of orange peel and ginger blend nicely with the caramel malt notes. Very well done.

Clear ruby red amber. Slight tan head. Malty. Bready. Modestly spiced. More malty than spiced thankfully!! Smooth medium plus body. Easily one of the better holiday ales.

Pours clear dark brown with a medium khaki head, good retention, very fine lacing. Aromas of toffee, toast, nutmeg, and ginger. Light body, smooth, creamy. Lightly sweet, gentle citrus, medium bitter finish. Very drinkable, the spices are light, it comes across as a lightly spiced brown ale.
