Spicy and bold, a big Christmas cookie of a beer. Samuel Adams Old Fezziwig Ale is bursting with spices of the season. With a remarkably full body and flavor it helps those long winter nights pass more quickly. The rich taste hits the palate with a depth of malt character ranging from sweet toffee and caramel notes to dark, roasty chocolate notes. Then the spices come in full force. Cinnamon, ginger and orange peel dance on the tongue bringing with them the celebratory spirit of the season.

Appearance: Pours with a thick feel. Very little carbonation. A brown amber color, maybe dark copper. Small (less than) a one finger head. Smell: The aroma is subtle but thick and musky in character. Full of spices and sweet malt aroma. Cinnamon, cloves, ginger and orange. Taste: Instantly I am smacked with a sweet malt taste. It is quite gentle on the palate. Through the middle the taste grows in depth including nice cranberry and caramel notes along with cinnamon and other spices. There is a subtle hint of something dark maybe roasted chocolate buried deep in the flavor. Finally, there is just a tad bit of alcohol showing through that is nice and warming. This is a very ’nice-and-easy’ beer. It is so inoffensive that I believe it would agree with most people’s palate. It has a very mildly hopped dry aftertaste. Mouthfeel: Medium mouthfeel is a bit syrupy and nicely carbonated, making it crisp and refreshing. Drinkability: This is an incredibly drinkable beer. It has just enough flavor to be interesting a not too much extreme characteristics that it is still totally agreeable. It is a good holiday beer, suitable for either dinner or a party beer. I could easy put down a number of these (with much pleasure). Hope this is helpful. Cheers!

As good a winter warmer as there is. Yet another appeal for Sam Adams to release this as a stand-alone 6 or 12 pack.

Poured from a 12 OZ bottle into a pint glass. The appearance is a dark ruby color with a small tan head. The aroma is fruit, bread, and vanilla. The flavor is a sweet mix of fruit and spices. A very nice beer for the colder months.

Bottle. Pours ruby-brown with thick light tan head and substantial lacing. Nose of bread, chocolate, and cinnamon. Bready malt with chocolate notes upfront with chocolate and subtle cinnamon in the finish. Very good overall. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle, pours brown with red tint and off white head. Aroma is cloves and spice. Same to taste with some orange and some carbonation. Not a bad beer just not a fan of cloves. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Slight hint of cloves, pours clear amber with a nice white head. Becomes more sweet the more you drink it, so probably not sessionable. Lively mouthfeel. An enjoyable holiday beer, could have a couple but too sweet to have too many.

Pours clear chestnut with a thick, though not too persistent, eggshell head. Aroma has woody and spice hints, a little malt, not strong but promising. Flavor features firm toasted malt, woody, cinnamon, toffee, chocolate, and subtle citrus tones. Mouthfeel features typical body but some good fizz. Enjoy the holidays.
