2.6 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Having just tried the Sam Adams White Christmas ale, Old Fezziwig seems like a more appropriate and balanced use of cinnamon, nutmeg and orange peel. In this beer, the roasted malts provide a more balanced flavor, appearance, aroma and mouthfeel. However, the creamy white head with a slight blue tinge and overall thinness of the mouthfeel don’t make this a great beer, just an okay one.

Rich and filling Winter Warmer with a mild but distinct spicy taste of Christmas. Short but pleasant bitterness on the finish. A good brew for the cold weather season.

"you can really taste the malt sweetness and great blend of spices in this beer. it’s like drinking a Christmas cookie! always a yearly seasonal brew, i wish they’s let me get a sixer of this, so i could avoid the (old) cranberry lambic in the holiday pack."

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
12 oz. bottle poured into tulip glass. Pours a rich dark brown, almost black with ruby undertones. A medium sized tan head that dissipates slowly and leaves a lot of thin lacing.
Smell is heavy in caramel and cocoa, a lot of citrus as well dark fruits, and a faint amount of cinnamon and ginger.
Taste is sweet chocolate, caramel, and toffee malts up front. The spices come through, especially towards the finish which all together makes for a really nice flavor profile front to back as the chocolate remains strong throughout. Mouthfeel is smooth and creamy.
Overall, a really good, balanced winter warmer, always worth having a few each year.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
The body has a deep amber color with a slight reddish hew. There is some visible carbonation that makes its way up to the head which has a light tan color and decent retention. Lacing is slick and quickly slides down the glass. The aroma has soft sweet orange peel notes with some cinnamon and roasted malt. The flavor has a bready malt presence up front that slowly adds in notes of cinnamon, ginger, sweet orange peel and finally some mild hops. It has a good medium to full body and the mouth feel is soft, well rounded with soft carbonation.

A: Some artificial cherry (think twizzlers), cocoa, coffee.
A: Deep reddish brown. Moderate head that quickly dissipates. Loose bubble structure.
T: Heavier on the pepper/spices notes than the nose. Lots of toasted malts.
P: Pretty highly carbonated for a darker brew. Medium body.
