1.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
At a 1 year oldís birthday party: Pours golden with white head. Aroma is lemon and sugar. Taste is beer attenuated with lemonade and sugar. At first, I thought it was tolerable, but it took real effort to get to the bottom of this one. I could have lived without this beer entering into my life.

Meh. Easy to drink, but really on the sweet side - too sweet to be refreshing.

UPDATED: APR 12, 2014 Iím going to confess to a bias here straight out: I donít like shandies, and I especially donít like shandies that are in beer mix packs, because Iím often interested in the other beers, but donít consider shandies beer, and donít really want to pay for them. Thatís why, despite my historic enjoyment of Sam Adamsí mix packs (especially when they are on sale), I havenít reviewed this yet- I think this is part of the first *summer* Sam Adams mix pack Iíve bought in years, and Iíve been not buying them specifically because I donít want to drink this "beer". If I wanted Hard Lemonade, Iíd go down the isle in the liquor store and find myself some hard lemonade (And Iím not against hard lemonade on occasion, Iíd just rather have beer). I will give this drink some credit, though- unlike some shandies, I can taste some actual beer in here, itís not just a straight out hard lemonade that uses the "beer" element of the labeling to give itself man law points or something- there is a bit of a lager background in this. I also will give it a second point of credit- which is that I do taste what I feel are real lemons in here. I drink a fair amount of fake lemonade from concentrate (cheap, low-calorie), and this is definitely not that, itís the real lemon taste you get from, well, lemons, at least to some extent. I also suspect a fair amount of sugar was added to this mix post-fermentation. So, um, itís a fairly authentic alcoholic lemonade with a little bit of beer in the background. Itís drinkable enough (The stuff I give really awful grades like 0.9 really are hard to choke down and/or vomit inducing in some way, whereas this just drinks like a lemonade), and I grade on a partial curve to style, so Iíll resist the urge to give this the lowest grade possible, and settle in on a 2.1. If you like shandies, I guess.... Grrrr. Get this abomination out of my mix pack. ;) EDIT: Actually, you know, upon reflection, Iíll give this an extra 0.5, itís really not bad, itís just not a beer.

2.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
bottle at Ft Wayne tasting Sep 14 2013 - Pours clear gold and smells like lemon hard candy. The flavor is like lemon candy and some light malt. Itís bubbly, light bodied, and kind of watery. The aftertaste is still sweet. This... is not good.

3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
This is what it is. It is very sweet with a near soda pop quality. This extends to the then ear non-existent head and similar lace.
Thin bodied and highly carbonated, I think this would be an easy beer to drink for a first time initiate to beer. But to serious drinker, this is a clearly, overly sweet offering. Itís still tasty and easy to drink.

1.7 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 5/20
12oz bottle served in a Great Divide shaped pint
Best before October 2013
A - Clear pale golden color with a fizzy white head vanishes quickly.
S - Lemon lime soda, kiwi, lemon alka seltzer, honey, medicinal phenolics
T - Follows the nose, lemon/lime soda, artificial honey sweetness, odd floral noes, medicinal characters, herbal hops, lager yeast, chalky mineral notes. Tries to finish crisp but the malty sweetness dulls it out.
M - Low stingy carbonation, wet body with a semi effervescent finish.
Kinda reminds me of sprite without less carbonation. The odd sweetness dull out any attempt of a crisp feel. I wont be revisiting this.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Taken for what it is, this on a hot summer day on a porch would be great. Pours clear golden with a thin white head. Aroma is lemon, citrus. Taste is tarte citrus and lemon with a small grainy malt finish.
