Samuel Adams is currently in the process of brewing up a German style called “radler.” The name radler translates to “cyclist,” A 50/50 (ish) blend of beer and lemonade. (Like a shandy). Perfect for any summer day, Samuel Adams® Porch Rocker was inspired by traditional Bavarian Radlers that mix beer with German-style lemonade. For our bright and citrusy Radler, we blended a Helles beer with lemon for a fresh-squeezed lemon taste, effervescent sweetness, and slightly tart, refreshing finish. A light malt character and hint of hops balance out this summer brew.

Bottle. The look is clear, white head, and golden in color. The smell is so sweet, lemonade, sugar, lemon, and perfume. The taste is sweet, sugary, Arnold Palmer, and ok.

12 oz bottle into a pint glass. A: Pours a golden straw color with nice clarity (chill haze aside) and vibrance. A slightly rocky one finger head of white shading fades away relatively quickly, leaving some lacing behind on the glass. S: There’s a definite lemon character here, along with a strong tea leaf note. A small touch of crackery malt hints that this is a beer, but if I didn’t know any better, I’d reckon this is just lemon-flavored iced tea. To be fair, I like lemon-flavored iced tea - just not when it smothers its base beer. T: As with the aroma, a finishing note of pale malts suggests this IS a beer - but only just. The first 2/3rds of the flavor profile are pure lemon iced tea, somewhat drowning out the base beer. This is better than, say, Mike’s Hard Lemonade at least. M: While it is quite sweet (very sweet, really), it makes an excellent thirst quencher. The wet finish suffocates the palate pretty strongly, but this remains easy to drink. O: If nothing else, this would kick ass on a hot day. As a rule of thumb, though, I don’t rate beer/something else hybrids or malternatives highly; this being no exception. I’d drink it over commercial ciders, BMC, or the like in this weather - but NOT over a well-done pure lager. Which incidentally, Sam Adams has a few of.

This is a prime example of why I don’t trust Sam Adams. Looks like urine. Smells like apple cider vinegar. Taste is the same but add lemon juice. This beer sucks.

Okay. What a difficult one. Clear crisp with an orange hue. Aroma is pretty tight on "beer" notes but the lemon juice is unmistakable. Slight hop flavour. Lemon forward. However not too sour. Good balance. Still a bit too fruit forward for my tastes.

This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a small sized head of foamy finely sized light white colored bubbles that were and left behind a uncarbonated transparent light yellow orange colored body. The funky aroma was musty and sour. The off-tasting mouth feel was weakly tingly at the start mediumly tingly at the finish with a lingering fruity aftertaste. The funky flavor contained notes of mild hops and fruity. Not one that I would buy again.

Lemonade dominates the aroma and the flavor of this beer. Not a bad example of this style. Quite refreshing really.

Bottle purchased at Blacklick Wine & Spirits. Clear gold in color with a medium white head. Aroma of lemon, malt and honey sweetness. Malty and lemony flavor with a honey sweet finish.

Bottle. Pours clear gold with white fizzy head. Aroma heavy with lemon and sweet malt. Almost a fruity character. Lemon comes through on taste but fake tasting. Sweet malt. Light to mid body. Not my favorite. Rather drink a Zima.

I put lemon in a Pabst and compared it. The Sam Adams tasted fake and the Pabst tasted more authentic. Both are bad. Stick with Arnie Palmers.
