Samuel Adams is currently in the process of brewing up a German style called “radler.” The name radler translates to “cyclist,” A 50/50 (ish) blend of beer and lemonade. (Like a shandy). Perfect for any summer day, Samuel Adams® Porch Rocker was inspired by traditional Bavarian Radlers that mix beer with German-style lemonade. For our bright and citrusy Radler, we blended a Helles beer with lemon for a fresh-squeezed lemon taste, effervescent sweetness, and slightly tart, refreshing finish. A light malt character and hint of hops balance out this summer brew.

Pours clear golden with a white head. Aroma has notes of lime and citrus lemonade. Taste is light to medium sweet and light bitter. Body is light, texture is thin, carbonation is soft.

Bottle, 12oz. It’s a clear, pale golden drink with a dense, two-finger, off-white to white head. Some lacings occur. That’s where the good part stops. The aroma is more or less exclusively lemonade, just a faint hint of beer reach my nose. The flavor has the same problem, the lemon overpowers the beer completely. It’s dry, effervescent and medium bodied on the palate, finishing with lemonade and a beery twist. Ok, so they accomplished what they were aiming for, that authentic German radler taste and aroma. Plus more body due to the higher alcohol level. But I still don’t think it’s a good drink. At least it’s not awfully artificial like some of the Germans. 130819

The Porch Rocker is sickeningly sweet, akin to Country Time powder being poured into a light kolsch. Artificial tasting and cloying.

There are better premixed Radlers. This is yellow in color with a short lived white head. Smells of 7up and lemonade. Lemon juice with a bitter lemon pith finish. Lots of sofa pop sweetness. Really doesn’t seem to be well integrated.

Poured fro a 12 oz bottle into a Chimay chalice. Pours cider gold with minimal head. Significant carbonation and modest mouthfeel. Aroma of citrus, cider, slight bread dough. Flavors of light apple, lemon, powder sugar. Overall light and refreshing with minimal malts or hops. It’s obviously not a "regular" beer or style, but interesting, certainly fine for a summer session when hot, and not as sweet and sour as a shandy.

Bottle. Light golden with small white head. Aroma of lemons. Light body with strong lemon presence upfront and not much of malt flavor or hop bitterness to balance it out.

Clear gold pour with a fluffy white head and nice lacing. Aroma is lemonade and grain. Taste is sweet lemonade and sweet malt. A hint of bitterness in the finish to try to fight the sweetness. Medium body. Light carbonation tingle in the end. Not bad but there are other summer beers I prefer.

Pours gold with a white head. Aroma is lemonade and floral. Taste is sweet with mild bitters. Good for a hot day but id rather a solid APA.

Light malty aroma that is overpowered with lemonade lemony scent Pours clear light gold color with quickly disappearing head Lemonade lemony flavor at first followed by bready maltiness. Medium bodied with medium CO2.lemony malty lingering finish Actually a pretty decent style of beer. Good for summer days. This is just a tad too sweet. I Wish the malt came through more as well. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
