Samuel Adams is currently in the process of brewing up a German style called “radler.” The name radler translates to “cyclist,” A 50/50 (ish) blend of beer and lemonade. (Like a shandy). Perfect for any summer day, Samuel Adams® Porch Rocker was inspired by traditional Bavarian Radlers that mix beer with German-style lemonade. For our bright and citrusy Radler, we blended a Helles beer with lemon for a fresh-squeezed lemon taste, effervescent sweetness, and slightly tart, refreshing finish. A light malt character and hint of hops balance out this summer brew.

Clear light golden with an unstable head. Aroma is lemony and biscuity at the same time, with a very light tartness. Flavor is uniqeuly bright and mellow, with zesty lemon tones, light tartness, a bit of malty pale sweetness, and a little cracker and biscuit background. Pale gold grain and light lemon finish. Remarkably tasty, beating my expectations. Like a lemony helles.

Pours straw like yellow with little to no head. Citrus notes lemon and grapefruit. Not a Hugh fan of this one. I find it to heavy on the lemon.

Bottle. Translucent gold pour with a short, white head. Smells like lemonade mixed with 7-Up and a touch of beer added. Taste is sweet with candied lemon, soft malt and soda. Body is light and sticky with lots of prickly carbonation. Ends with more candied lemon, 7-Up-like soda notes and sweet malt.

Pours a light yellow post night of drinking pee color. Can definitely taste the lemonade which I’m not huge fan of but would be a good mid summer refreshing beer to wash lunch down with.

Transparent light golden color with thin foam. Smells string of lemons and cleaner. Taste is an overpowering sweet lemon flavor. Almost like pine sol. Harshness lingers a bit on the palate. Not as refreshing as expected higher alcohol content might be appropriate to complement the intense flavors.

Pours a clear golden with a decent full white head that thins out pretty quick. Some lace. Aroma of Lemon Pledge. Taste is sweet pale malt, bisquits and a little lemonade. Meh.

Golden, pretty clear. Lemon artificial nose. Yup, it’s a radler. Sweet and doesn’t really rock mine....

Bottle. Pours gold with a very small white head. Artificial lemon aroma with strange grain and salty notes. Slightly tart lemon flavor followed by strange salty and grainy notes.

This is a high (for style) ABV radler with, I think, more lemon flavor than average. It pours a clear, golden-amber color, The small head has weak retention and leaves little lace. Lemons dominate the background of wheat malt in both the aroma and flavor. More lemonade than beer, it has a rather sugary taste. I feel it is indeed a little too sweet, with lemon flavor that seems too artificial and lacking sufficient balance from hops.
