Samuel Adams is currently in the process of brewing up a German style called “radler.” The name radler translates to “cyclist,” A 50/50 (ish) blend of beer and lemonade. (Like a shandy). Perfect for any summer day, Samuel Adams® Porch Rocker was inspired by traditional Bavarian Radlers that mix beer with German-style lemonade. For our bright and citrusy Radler, we blended a Helles beer with lemon for a fresh-squeezed lemon taste, effervescent sweetness, and slightly tart, refreshing finish. A light malt character and hint of hops balance out this summer brew.

Pours a light golden color. Nose is sweet lemon. Taste is citrusy and sweet, and very fruity. Better than most fruit beers, but a little too sweet for my buds. Leave this to the ladies. Quaff Score 2 / 10

The pour is a clear golden straw color with a short lived white head. Definite lemon on the nose with a strong sweetness. Light tartness, so sweet bready malt, and a very light floral hop aroma. Very fresh lemon note to this. The taste is actually very lemonade like. Sweet and sour flavors with some hints of grass, light bread, and a touch of hop flavor. Ever so slight biscuit malt notes, too.

12oz bottle. Looks light. Aroma of lemonade, pale malts, and light hops. Flavor the same, but the lemonade blends with this beer better than other shandies. Average to light texture. A fruit beer.

12oz bottle from Discount Liquor Milwaukee. Pours a deep golden yellow color with a in white head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is sweet, fruity, lemon. Light on the palate with lively carbonation. Flavor is sweet, lemonade, just a touch of cereal malt, but not much, with a bitter lemon finish. Doesn’t really taste like beer at all, but it doesnt taste bad.

UPDATED: DEC 22, 2013 12 oz. Clear golden with a small, lasting head. Aroma is lemon SweeTarts, and maybe a touch of honey. Taste is pretty much the same, but a touch less of the abrasive lemon. Light-medium body is too sweet and fizzy, but ends up being lightly refreshing. I tried a couple of "Radlers" in Germany about 20 years ago and they were just as bad as this one, if not worse. The best I can say about this "bier" is congrats to Sammy; it certainly achieves what it sets out to be.

Golden orange pour with a small white head. It is a sugary soda beer with grapefruit and lemony citrus flavor. Decent, but not my style.

Sampled on 7/26/2012. This fruit beer/radler pours a light yellow orange gold color from a 12oz bottle. Small to medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is citrusy, lemon, and sweet. A light bodied radler. The malts are fruity and sweet. The hops are herbal. Lots of lemon and citrus flavors, with a touch of grapefruit. Decent carbonation, actually a whole lot of real tiny bubbles. Light, refreshing and easy drinking. Not sure what else to ask from the style. Would be a great hot summer day or evening session ale. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is sweet with a hint of lemon.
