Samuel Adams is currently in the process of brewing up a German style called “radler.” The name radler translates to “cyclist,” A 50/50 (ish) blend of beer and lemonade. (Like a shandy). Perfect for any summer day, Samuel Adams® Porch Rocker was inspired by traditional Bavarian Radlers that mix beer with German-style lemonade. For our bright and citrusy Radler, we blended a Helles beer with lemon for a fresh-squeezed lemon taste, effervescent sweetness, and slightly tart, refreshing finish. A light malt character and hint of hops balance out this summer brew.

Bottle. Pours crystal clear light amber. Nose of wheat, lemongrass, straw. Just a little skunky at first but after it opens up that’s gone and changes to a dough aroma. Taste to me is a typical wheat beer with lemon concentrate added. Not too sweet. Not too sour. Has a bite on the tongue and leaves a lingering saccharin aftertaste. Great beer for hot summer days as advertised. Not too bad overall.

I love this beer. It's a shandy with more of a beer taste. I also like the bright flair to it. It's a beautiful light amber color and and you can even smell a little bit if that lemony aroma. Great beer for the summer and super easy to drink! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a clear golden color with a short lived white head. Fruit, grass, grain and malt aroma. Apple, lemon, sugar, pear, grain and malt flavors. Light body and moderate carbonation. Sweet sugary mouthfeel. Fruit and sugar finish. More like a cider than beer.

12 ounce bottle from a mixed 12 pack. This beer smells like fart. Hard-core sulfur with some Pine-Sol lemon cleanser. So imagine having the shits and missing the toilet and shitting all over the bathroom...then cleaning said shit with lemon cleanser. This is what this drink replicates. Transparent golden body with a pretty nice, foamy whitish head. Starts with a bit of a fruit banana ester flavor. Way too estery if this is supposed to be a helles to begin with. Sweet, sugary malts in the middle. Finishes with lemon soda flavoring. Not much else. This is an utter abomination.

I got this in the 12 bottle Summer pack. There’s a best by date of August 2014. I poured both bottles into a pint glass. The appearance was a super clear yellow color with bubbles clinging to the sides of the bottle and a carbonation that shoots up like shooting stars to feed the head. The head starts at/about 2 fingers and rapidly dissipates to a foamy bubbly-ness with some foamy lacing kinda going all over the place. The smell, was I think Sam Adams was going for the German Radler. Did they do that here? I’m pretty sure as it definitely smells like true lemonade with beer. Now, what style of beer, well, that seems to be up for grabs. The taste is sweet refreshing lemonade. There isn’t any aftertaste but there is definitely a watery finish. On the palate, this one sits extremely light and shows a definite refreshing sessionability running about my mouth and tongue. The carbonation is refreshing and crisp. Overall, well, its a Radler by style, but in my opinion, there’s too much lemonade and not enough of the beer. I probably wouldn’t have it again. But if you like the fruitier Radlers, go for it.

Poured a clear medium yellow. Nose was nearly pure citrus. Faint head with decent lacing. In the mouth it is just a bit too citrusy, but as the style goes, it’s very refreshing.

This looks fine, a heavily bubbling yellow body with a thick white head. It smells like lemonade. It tastes like lemonade. Over all, it’s pretty much of a carbonated lemonade. Not for me. Burp.

For what it is, this is a tasty summer brew. Nice lemon taste, with only a hint of hops. I could easily drop a six pack on a hot summer day.

Draft. Nose of citrus. Perfect clarity. Minimal head. Pretty tasty. A subtle sweetness lasts into the finish. Ok. Perfect when you’re thirsty but frank too much the day before.
