COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Samuel Adams is currently in the process of brewing up a German style called “radler.” The name radler translates to “cyclist,” A 50/50 (ish) blend of beer and lemonade. (Like a shandy). Perfect for any summer day, Samuel Adams® Porch Rocker was inspired by traditional Bavarian Radlers that mix beer with German-style lemonade. For our bright and citrusy Radler, we blended a Helles beer with lemon for a fresh-squeezed lemon taste, effervescent sweetness, and slightly tart, refreshing finish. A light malt character and hint of hops balance out this summer brew.

Bottle, 12oz. It’s a clear, pale golden drink with a dense, two-finger, off-white to white head. Some lacings occur. That’s where the good part stops. The aroma is more or less exclusively lemonade, just a faint hint of beer reach my nose. The flavor has the same problem, the lemon overpowers the beer completely. It’s dry, effervescent and medium bodied on the palate, finishing with lemonade and a beery twist. Ok, so they accomplished what they were aiming for, that authentic German radler taste and aroma. Plus more body due to the higher alcohol level. But I still don’t think it’s a good drink. At least it’s not awfully artificial like some of the Germans. 130819

Bottle. Pours lightly orange tinged gold with a creamy white head. Has that Radler lemon drop aroma. Med minus body. There’s a initial lemonade taste - folllowed by what seems to be a lot of wheat. Finishes mildly sweet/tart. Would never doubt this was a Radler.

The pour is a clear golden straw color with a short lived white head. Definite lemon on the nose with a strong sweetness. Light tartness, so sweet bready malt, and a very light floral hop aroma. Very fresh lemon note to this. The taste is actually very lemonade like. Sweet and sour flavors with some hints of grass, light bread, and a touch of hop flavor. Ever so slight biscuit malt notes, too.

Bottle. Poured hazy yellow color with an average fizzy white head that diminished slowly with fair lacing. Good lemon citrus green tea aroma. Light to medium body with a thin texture and soft carbonation. Light to medium sweet lemonade flavor with light to medium citrus sweet finish of short duration. This beer did not meet my expectations.

Bottle @ home. Pours a clear golden appearance with a bubbly, white head that dissipates quickly. Tons of lemonade and a sort of corn-like character to the aroma. Flavor is a bit syrupy, sweet, corny, and strangely, slightly medicinal. Kind of refreshing but mostly unappetizing and nasty. I wanted to like this and I think there’s a market for radlers in the US but this sucks balls.
