Rebel IPA is brewed with 5 varieties of West coast hops: cascade, simcoe, centennial, chinook, & amarillo. It’s everything we love about West coast style IPA’s. Big citrus & grapefruit flavors with subtle pine notes for a flavorful refreshing brew.

This ipa is a shocker from Sam. Never thought it was going to be good but it is great. Good hops great finish and after taste. This is going to be a consistent product. The Rebel double ipa is even better!!!

Bottle from Shell Gas: Aroma is bright with floral hop aroma while notes of honey and sweet malts fill my nose. Appeared a light golden liquid topped with frothy foam head. The drink is bitter and has a buttery taste of malts with only a pinch of green hop pellet flavoring that comes through. Not as west coast IPA as I would have liked but then again every beer Sam Adams makes always ends up having that signature sammy flavor.

Not much hope aroma, more malty and sweet. Nice carmel color, not too dark or intimidating for a middle of the road IPA. Slightly sweet finish, but overall pretty well balanced. Not hop forward enough for my taste.

355 ml bottle. Mostly clear paler orange, fading off-white foam. Mild fruity hoppy aroma. Taste is lightly bitter fruity hop, citrus, a bit floral some spice and a hint of evergreen, slightly sweet c-malt, grapefruity. Softer carbonation, medium bodied, well hopped. A bit limp. NFL (Not For Lagerboys)

Appearance: Pours a softly hazed, rustic orange body with a half-inch-high, snow white, foam head.

Smell: A mixture of toasted bread and barley grains paired with a zip of citrus-scented hops.

Taste: Lightly toasted crustless bread, lightly toasted grains given a sip of water and housing a light sweetness. Citric edged lemon, tangerine and even some finely shredded herbs. Medium bitterness. Fairly drying finish, with a sustained taste of the citrus and herbs into the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.

Overall: None its feature are overly pronounced, but, still, it’s a decent, if a bit basic IPA.

Where and how: bottle 355 ml at tasting
Aroma tad rough, aromatic citrusy hops. Feel of pineapple, grape skins, sorachi like with sweet base.
Appearance :
Top: average mid sized, average lasting cap.
Base: clear, golden ale.
Palate : medium lighter bodied yet with pleasantly rounded feel.
Taste: easy going. Alcohol well hidden, balanced hop malt character. Hinted hops. Sweeter finish.
Noting extreme, just well made hop sided ale.

I was hoping for something that would truly compete with a great west coast IPA (at a nice price point), but it just comes up a little short across the board. It seems to fit right into the "good" category that SamA seems to happy to fill these days. The craft crowd pleaser that sits between macro and micro.

Very smooth, grapefruit forward pale IPA with a thin, white soapy head. Excellent drinkability & flavor.
